I'm trying to see what other people are gettimg for gas mileage. I'm getting about 10 miles to the gallon. 3.0 automatic trans.I know my filler neck leaks when getting gas and my gas cap dosen't work rite. My son drives to school mostly highway.Thanks!:icon_confused:

Which year? You list your year as 1984, your make as 1990 and your model as 1999. :icon_confused:

Tire size? 4x4? box - long/short? rear end? modifications?

At any measurement 10 is terrible. Why not just fix the filler neck and buy a new gas cap?

My '89 2WD A/T 2.9L was getting 25mpg at 60mph

now the V8 A/T 5.8L gets 22mpg at 60mph

10mpg ?
RVs get better mileage.

Is odometer working correctly?
Stock wheels and tires, original rear end

Do you smell fuel in the engine compartment, or inside, when engine is running?

Pull a spark plug and see if it shows signs of running rich, grayish/black coating.
Although 10mpg rich would probably mean exhaust would be belching black smoke and engine would barely run.

My guess would be a leak in the fuel lines or tank, first get a match then.........joking.
Put some cardboard under the driver side frame rail, from engine to tank, where the gas lines are, there are two, supply and return.
And some cardboard under the fuel tank.
Start engine, wait and see what drips.

Other possibilities:
Neighbor or someone at son's school has a siphon hose :)

Son is disconnecting the odometer and driving an hour to the titty bar and back then reconnecting the odometer :yahoo: party time

Truck in my sig. 21.43 MPG in near to optimal conditions (checked over 7k miles). The worse I've done is 14.5 and this was just about the worst possible road driving conditions (in 4WD 85% of the time, many short trips in the city - I love the UP :)).

My dad has a 1998 Ranger 4WD, 3.0, ext. cab auto, 30 inch BFGOODrich A/T tires, 4.10 gears and is getting 12mpg at best.
