My ranger sat for like 2 months...i went to start it and it ran like shit. Figured out it was the MAP sensor.

But now it has a single cylinder misfire. Like a dead miss. Its constant. Im going to pull the plugs and clean them hoping to get lucky but i got a feeling i got a bum injector.

I doubt its a serious internal issue as it isnt noisy and ran fine last time i used it.

Anyways my questions...

1- I need to get an injector pigtail to test the injectors if i pull the rail. Will a plug off a 3.0 or 4.0 be the same? Or even a 4 cylinder or V8 of the roughly same vintage? They are much eaiser to find in bone yards.

2- Do the parts stores sell any kind of injector cleaner (long shot i know) that screws onto the schrader valve? Instead of the intank shit?

Thanks in advance

I've never seen an injector cleaner that goes in through the fuel rain instead of the tank. Would have to be a pressurized can to be able to cover come the pressure from the fuel pump instead of just pushing gas into the container of cleaner.

I honestly doubt any fuel system would help if you already got to the point where there is a major issue with the injector.

Could just be bad gas coupled with a messed up spark plug, the bad gas just amplifying the bad plug.

I haven't notice nearly as many issue with fuel injectors getting gummed up by bad gas as I have carbs, but the only carb stuff I have is small engines. Usually on an EFI engine if injectors are not spaying enough gas the computer will compensate and mask the issue.

Yeah i knew cleaner was a last ditch effort.

Anyone try one of those fuel injector tester machines?

I to was wondering about bad gas. It is pry a few months old...but i figured that would cause more then just one cylinder. It runs fine now besides that dead miss.

I've never used that one you posted, but a fuel injector testing box is pretty standard kit. Just makes it easier to hook up power to the injector and pulse it without needing four arms.

Can you test them without pulling them?

No. The tester is just used to apply power to open the valve in the injector. The real testing is you looking at the spray pattern of the injector to see if it looks good.

Normally I would spray some 2+2 into a glass jaw and watch the spray pattern coming out of the injector. Is it a fine mist or is it dribbling out.

I kinda figured. Just was hopin not to pull the damn rail again

Does it miss at idel/ light load or only under acceleration?

If it's manageable I would try and run a couple tanks of gas through it with some heat. Change the spark plugs, and then see how it runs.

You can feel it at idle. If you just free rev it its not noticable, under normal driving its pretty bad. Not shakes the whole truck bad but you can for sure tell its not hittin all 6

It still runs pretty hard so i dont think its down more then one.

The wifes fusion is going to the body shop in a few weeks to get deer damage repaired, shes gonna use the jeep and i was gonna use the ranger so i dont have to feed my 460.

Im gonna tear into it monday after work. I just dont wanna drive it and burn a piston or something if ones leaned out.

When the MAP was bad it was running so rich that i literally started choking on fuel smoke after playing with it for 5 min or so in the driveway....whicg is why im really hoping its a fouled out plug

Dang! I once had pikes of that stuff $0.99 a can.
I wonder what it is now, around $9.99 ?
It hasn't even crossed my mind for ages
I did find part of a can but what I remembered, this is in a blue can supertech
Is that the same ol stuff?

Ive always just used gumout or whatevers cheap

Like usual i always think the worst...

Went and dumped 20 bucks in fresh fuel and some injector cleaner gimmick...went out and bo duke'd it down some dirt roads and she *seems* to have all 6 back.
