was drivin around today and i just filled up my tank, i pulled off the lot and made it about a half block and then watched my gas guage just drop down to empty.... any idea's? i know the tank is full, i was told to cross certain wires and i would then know if it was the sending unit or the guage itself.? any one know where these wires are located. i have a 93 ext 4.0 4x4. thanks for any advice

the float sunk,

^^^^ agreed. my ranger did the same thing and i have been driving for 6 months with it reading empty lol. but to replace the pump isnt that bad if you can remove the bed off the truck.

so your saying replace the pump/sendin unit?

Or just the float. Both my Bll's did the same thing replaced one float but the other one is mostly off road so i just fill up before I go to the woods.

No, the float that 'floats' in the gas tank is no longer floating...so it always reads empty. Replace the float

Yup. Floats float, except when they don't.

ha. i can nearly smell the testosterone coming out of my computer. so the float would be attached to the sending unit?? pull the box off pull out the sending unit and replace the float? never dealt with fuel issues before i'm new to this

no, the float is just floating around free. It has a wireless transmitter and one of those Faraday-flashlight setups so they charge up as you drive down the road and they shake up.

You gotta pull the bed, pull the fuel pump, and just dig around until you find it. Or it could look like a brass thing attached to an arm on the pump.

the float sunk, and send unit defect »in the gas tank-----»same thing for me

is there any kind of bait i could use on my fishing rod to coax the float out of the tank? or do i have to do the old fashion thing and fish around till i catch it?

I think I used spaghetti-Os when I fished mine out.

I have never seen somebody have to fish out a float. Usually they get a hole in them and sink. Not sure if you can replace just the float. Maybe you could make one... hmmm I waited to replace mine till my fuel pump went out and i replace the assembly all at one time. By i think if you do have to catch the float they like anything round spagetti-os, fruit loops, donuts, cherrios, ect.
