2001 3.0 RWD flex fuel. Ordered a new fuel filter with the flex fuel designation. All sites show it to be a larger canister. Went to swap it onto the truck and it has the smaller canister. Anyone run into this?

FWIW, I did install the new Wix fuel filter, it fit all the lines perfectly, no leaks, etc. I bent the bracket open as far as possible and used 2 stainless steel zip ties to secure it. I can't find a single picture of a large canister fuel filter with a larger size bracket on the entire web. Surely I am not the only person to ever have this issue.........

Odd…

I came across a thing awhile back about using a large canister filter that had long stems so you could use AN adapter fittings and did that change on my green Ranger, mine was non-flex fuel 4.0, but I think the filter might be the same. What part number was the filter you got?

Also, the large canister filter that I got for mine, I didn’t even try to use the factory holder, I bought a hanger clamp for electrical conduit that worked perfectly. I went fancy and bought stainless because it was only like $10 added onto my hardware order and things rust bad here. I can check the size.

Wix 33667, it fits all 3 lines fine, just the holder bolted to the frame is for a small canister. I will keep using the filter, just swap out the holder. Truck had a stumble/idle issue here and there after lots of work (IAC, cam sensor and synchronizer, plugs, coil, wires) the idle stumble went away after the fuel filter change.

Thank you for the video, I saw that filter last night for $8.99 but didn't know if it came with the bracket.

Says it comes with new clamp

I'll look into the 2.5" conduit hanger as well

.97 for the conduit bracket and I'll swap out the hardware for stainless next time Im at Menards. Thanks for the help @lil_Blue_Ford

I couldn’t remember an exact price and was too lazy to go look but I knew it was under $10, lol

Problem solved. I removed the factory bracket, spread it apart slightly, used a 2.5" hose clamp (cut a strip of rubber 1/4"×4" and used that between the clamp and filter). Ran the hose clamp behind the factory bracket, basically sandwiched the filter into the oem bracket, then reinstalled the factory bracket through the frame. Looks great and very secure.
