So I have been dealing with a "Check Engine Light" issue and my 94 4x4 4L Ranger failed Virginia emissions. Went to put some fuel in it to head home and noticed a leak from beneath the truck. Apparently the fuel filler neck is leaking which seems to be a common complaint.

Anyway, am I correct that the leaking filler neck could be the cause of the "Check Engine Light", much like a loose gas cap?

Am I also correct that this could be the cause of the emission test failure?

Thanks.

my 94 4l 4x4 has a leaky filler neck and crack in filer neck inlet on the tank and my CEL isn't on so not sure that that would be your problem. you need to read codes from your ODB1 computer.. then you will have a better idea of what direction to go....

On a '96 or later truck (OBDII), yes. But not on a '94 (OBD1).
As black_demon said, you need to get the codes and do some diagnostics.

If Virginia does an evap test, then yes, a cracked filler neck would indeed cause you to fail that test (I would've thought they'd tell you the reason(s) why you failed... :icon_confused: )

A CEL that is on typically is always an automatic failure however, so if that's why they failed you, then perhaps they never even got to testing your evap system.
