Fuel Accumulator canister removal

I'm glad you took the time to open it up and document what you found. That confirms what I thought....whew.

FWIW, the pump in the tank is the 'lift pump', and generally produces low pressure flow. The high-pressure pump for EFI vehicles is frame mounted, just about under the e-brake pedal in the cab. The canister in question holds the fuel filter for at least some EFI vehicles, mine included. I removed the U-shaped protection metal plate, by swiveling on one frame bolt, but was unable to break the canister free to replace the filter.
Carbureted vehicles can have a mechanical pump on the block or a low-pressure pump mounted either on the frame or in-tank. I suspect most electrical pumps for carburetors would be tank mounted. I post no guarantee of accuracy...
