hey guys i have a 99 3.0 with IFS, ABS, and the Dana 35. i REALLY wanna lock the front. i looked all around for a good cheap locker but not sure what is the best. imm in school full time so money i tight. i was thinking of just welding up the spider gears, but i dont really like that idea. i would appreciate any advice

I've done this with both an open 9" and an open d-28. These are both drop out carriers [pumpkins]. It's fairly simple, and cheap. Keep track of where bearing caps came out by stamping with a letter or number or just dots. Also get the shims and bearings back in the same spot they came from. There is a washer/shim behind the side gear, this is the 'spider' gear that the axle engages. Add an extra washer/shim there and put it back together... done! You can try to put more than one in but I've only been able to get one in. I used a washer from another pumpkin I had lying around but you can buy new from a driveline shop. Be aware that this puts extra stress on the side/spider gears and it can disintegrate. I'd guess that's because they didn't torque the bolts. That has not happened to me; 20,000 miles on the 9" and about 200 miles [engaged] on the d-28. Some of the stock 9" come with 4 spiders, this is the preferred setup for strength, I don't know if the d-28 or the 7.5" has/had the same option.
Good luck,

Richard

Your only option is an Aussie locker for the D35 IFS. Part # XD-13535. Good luck finding one. Aussie locker doesn't produce them anymore.

I have 2, one used, one brand new. How much are you willing to spend on a used one?

I'm not sure how much they were when they first sold them a few years ago, but the new one I got 2 weeks ago was probably a lot cheaper. I ordered a new pin and spring kit for the used one. I'm not sure how much i'd sell it for. $150 shipped or so?

sounds good to me. it may soound a little pathetic that i cant do 150 at once but any way we can do half and half like a week or so latter? just gotta make sure i got everything paid for the month. is the locker in good shape?

Your idea's not pathetic by any means. Nothing wrong with making payments, which is exactly what you want to do. I don't have a day off work until Wednesday so that'll be the soonest I can take the locker out of the diff it's in. If you don't mind waiting I can get it out and take some pictures.

I see Aussie list on for a 35 for years up to 1997.

What would be different on a 35 between a 97 model and a 09 that wouldn't make it work?

Are not all Ford 35's 27 spline?
