Front Leafs for SAS

no, just about the shortest I could use.....

I originally planned to have the shackles in the rear, but as it turns out to keep the truck as low as I wanted I needed to put the shackles forward....

but, Slo-vo came across these "box sliders" that take the place of the shackles....so I now plan to get some of those and remove the front shackle with that box in the rear....

edit....here is a mock-up pic of the box sliders.....

Teaser.

I had seen the 44044 springs mentioned in another thread after extensive reading. I'm also considering the 52" chevy spring from the rear of a K5 Blazer or the rear springs from a fullsize Bronco. I found the 52" spring locally from a friend for free. Anyone ever heard of or used these?

i currently use chevy 52's

they wont flex well compared to the rbv springs.

but i can rip non modified rbv springs in half. i know that for sure. way too soft in my application without some modifications. shackle angle is critical with packs over 1800#

some of the lack of flex i have is due to my frame behaving like a slinky and wont work springs very much....

i should try to get some pics of the leaf setups just for this type of discussion.

i am extremely front heavy though and need the 52 springs.

v6 trucks get away pretty good with the rbv springs. 300 hp fawks em up pretty fast though. use straps and bumps!!

Hey railman, I'm thinking of going the route of Ex springs too. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the leaves have the center bolt kinda off-center, as in more toward one end of the leaf than the other? How did this affect your build/ride? I'm planning on putting the shackles in the rear on my SAS also.

I like the idea of the slider box there. Only problem I can see is you would need a custom driveshaft to cope with that kind of movement. The driveshaft would have to have 2 or 3 times as much room to compress/extend I would think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

yes the Ex springs have the center bolt "off-center".....

it was no impact on my build in that I wanted my axle moved forward from the original axle center line....and the Ex springs offered that to me....while putting the end of the leaf back under the flat of the frame....

I needed some extra length in my slip just for the amount of flex I have right now....and used a longer one from a F250....

don't think that the slider will allow the springs to droop anymore than hooked up to shackles.....but it will be neat to find out:D

Im thinking about belltech 6400s..They probably have a total movement of 5 inches from fully compressed to fully flexed and I understand that lateral movement is completely different from a pivot movement.... Slider setup will have 10+ inches of movement. It's definitely ingenious though...I love it. Looks like it might even eliminate 90% of axle wrap as well.

check out trail gears front leafe springs, im running them in the ranger im building now
