front end

doorgunner up here its either all or nothing caise there is not a little shop to go to so the shops wont to one little part and 70roadrunner, i think if i got a junkyard axle i would be in the same boat as i am now with replacing alot

Well since you seem to be running out of options. Build a tent over it out of those nice blue tarps and plug in a space heater and start beating it apart. It isn't that difficult and you have us to walk you through it. Just get pics so if you run into trouble we can easier get you out of it.

If you don't have an account for uploading pics get a free one at imageshack.com

doorgunner both sides are the same the previous owner must have beat on it cause nothing was ever fixed except the engine and the shops around here do all or none so i have to get it all done at once and 70roadrunner i feel if i get on from a jy that i will be in the same position as i am now

If you can get a vid of the front suspension parts while someone is turning the wheel back and forth in quick movements, perhaps we can suggest what parts are crucial to change, and what parts can wait for a while. Do you have access to a camera or phone that takes vids?

Richard

yea i have a camera that takes vids but i decided to just do seals and ball joints i have some tarps and my grandprents might have some more that we use to cover our boats and motorhom, they are old billboard tarps that we use to use as carports and once u put a couple heaters in it stays kinda warm, just gonna have to melt away the snow first which will take a couple days

Some of those shops will sell you a bill of goods such as that particular vendor. The reason they tell you that is suposedly warranty and liability.

The one I use will do what I want them to and pay accordingly.
Yeah they will say you should . . . and . . . but I've never had them refuse a job.

There is a trick of hitting the ball joint housing with a BFH to pop them loose. I've had it work when I replaced with adjustables.

I would agree to do what you can when you can.
I would offer my garage but it's a long way to norcal from your house.

Good luck
Rich

fyre i asked them if they would do only one side and they said no lol and i just got quoted again and they told me 1,345 and said parts alone would be 800? i doubt that

Those prices sound like something Firestone would charge... There is a reason most of us do our own work and with numbers like those I am sure you can see why. There is no way you could blow $800 in parts on simply replacing ball joints wheel bearings and seals.

yea thats what i was say and the lady said oh well they use all top of the line moog parts and i told her still at most 400 if that, but looks like i will be doing it myself here soon and will be taking pics to post if i hit a snag, i'm just hoping i don't get the dang thing apart and can't get it back together

A year ago, I built a tent , and the Rat was on blocks for 3 1/2 months. Look around for scrap ply wood and old carpet to lie on. That is only because I've gotten old and banged up. I used to do stuff like this in the driveway. I listened to the playoffs whilst under a wag replacing a spring, with hand tools. 15' F Wind blowing about 20 MPH . At least the mosquitoes arent out. :D

I've done a few of those frozen under the car ventures. Not fun! Got pneumonia once putting an engine in a 68 Nova during the Ohio spring rains. Was 19 then. Now have nice garage to work in as I am getting too old to lay in the mud. Sometimes getting older has its advantages like... Nice shop and good tool collection.

But the mosquitoes..... EHHH! Can't do much about them. Fortunately they are basically a 6 weeks out of the year issue. We always have a few but in late march and early April the air is black with them.

A bit more expensive, but you can buy the control arms complete with the new ball joint already installed- then just swap them out. You'll need a pickle fork to bust tie rods loose, and if you decide to swap the ball joints rent a ball joint press. Without it, good damn luck. With it, easy swap. O'reilly's rents these for free- you pay for the tool, bring it back within 48 hrs and get a full refund...

we don't have O'reilly's close by so i just borrow one from a friend but i dont see how buying control arms would be easier since i would still have to attempt to install the axle shifts i think

I've had dealerships tell me my ball joints were bad when really only my camber was off, I would get somebody else to look at it also. Now my dads f250 had ball joints with holes warn though them...

it wasnt the dealership plus they showed me that the balljoints are bad so i know they are
