I’ve been chasing a moaning sound from the front drive train for a week now. I can’t figure this out.
I pulled out the half shaft drove it- noise still there
Replace both wheel bearings again (replaced in 2018) drove it noise still there.
Pulled both CV’s drove it-noise gone.
What’s left? The Diff!
I’m going to assume that after 161k miles the bearings are probably bad.
After removal of the diff and cover I’m lost. I don’t want to replace the whole assembly as this would be an easier option.
HOW DO YOU GET THE PIG OUT?.

I see at least 1 of the carrier caps is removed. when both are removed you just pull the carrier out of the housing.
there is a pre-load on the bearings, pull hard. the drivers side CV and pass side half shaft need to be removed first.

Both are removed. Does the splined shaft on the passenger side have any retainer clips? Or does it just pull out.
