front brakes

my front break pads keep moving up and down with the rotors. so in doing so everytime it goes up it hits metal then drops and hits metal. it never STOPS!
why in the hell do they do this and what can i do to make it stop?

the nose makes me want to drive into a tree!

the knuckles may be worn, or you need new caliper mounting pins.
 
you should get some new pads...they should come with new "pad holder thingys" they are metal and shiny and hold the pad in place. Or new drift pins, if it was my truck id get bolth.
 
You are missing the stainless steel clips that go on the end of the pads to prevent the brakes from doing exactly what your experianceing. Inspect the caliper for hammering/damage from the pads hitting them. If they are damaged they will need to be replaced.
 
Yup, looks like you need the anti rattle clips for the pads
 
they are new, they never came with anything but the pads.


can someone post up a pic of what the caliper and pad should look like with said pins or clips so i kno what you guys are talking about.

i do not believe tose are it , i believe the ones he is missing are the ones in the mounting bracket , where the pads slide in there should be a clip that makes them fit snug

Doh, I must of misunderstood what they were saying. I thought thats what they were talking about, was the ones on the back. My bad.
 
mine have clips on each side of the pad too
 
the pads have anti rattle clips on top and bottom, they have to be taken off the old pads and installed on the new ones or buy more, also dont forget to grease the pins on the calipers, the calipers do move as they are full floating. if they dont move then your caliper may clamp the rotor and warp the hell out of it.
 
i know its the pest pic i had you can see the stainless clip inbetween the pad and the caliper bracket..

Actually this side is sticking after my break job last weekend so i may need new float pins..
 
I also have the break pad clunk...these clips were missing when I got the truck and my question is are there clips on all the pads? 8 clips total?
 
Since you brought up float pins for the caliber I thought I'd ask a question. I've got a 2000 2wd and was told at one time the grease used on those pins with the rubber guides come pre-lubed from ford with a special organic grease. Is that true?
I also was told since rubber touches the pins, the grease used should be silicone because it won't deteriorate the rubber. Then someone tells me silicone grease is not to be used.
Just curious what grease is appropriate for the pins on the caliber of a 2000
