My credo
What's the worst that could happen?
Asking 750:

"2005 Ford Ranger · Truck · Driven 168,000 miles 4×4 great truck, tons of new parts, alternate & starter, siprintine belt, and 10k on front tires. Has lickingtool box ( blabk) 4×4 works excellent, great on the snow. Steering is tight and it has been my daily drive to work. Why so cheap? Needs a timing chain. When it snapped the engin continued to run but the truck slowed to a stop and I turned it off. I just don't have the money to repair, my loss your can."

I don't really have the time or inclination - well maybe a little -- but what's the worst that could happen? New engine?

Too bad it’s not closer to me. Not that I need another project but if all it needs is an engine it would be a relatively easy fix

That doesn’t sound like a timing chain to me. The engine doesn’t continue to run after a timing chain lets go. If I was to guess, just from his description, I’d say broken flex plate.

I'd rather fix that than a timing chain.

If it was a chain it woulda stopped dead. Id be intrested to see whats wrong with it if it "slowed to a stop" and he "shut it off".

Dang it. Now you people are making me think bad thoughts....

$750 for the truck. Couple hundred to get the trailered here....

That’s why I guessed flex plate...

The engine will stay running and the truck will lose power. It would rattle and clank similar to loose timing chains. Once it’s shut off, it will “crank” but not start.

Someone needs to go check it out and see what’s wrong with... I’ll wait for their report.

I hate you...you're doing this on purpose.

It's located in Michigan, and judging by the rust on those step bars, the underside will probably be quite nasty. Even if it's just a flexplate, I don't know if it would be worth trying to fix without taking a good look at it.

Well... I sent a DM to the poster yesterday and have heard nothing back, so I am leaving it alone at this point.

And I am probably better off :p

I talked to my buddy in Grand Rapids... maybe he’ll go look at it.
