So this happened today...

After fixing the truck all last week (new valve cover gaskets, plugs, wires, driveshaft support, transfer case shifter motor...)

Some guy decides to pull in front of me from behind a stop sign... I do think that in damage the Colorado lost 6-1 but still I'm afraid the insurance company will want to total my trusted Ranger. Back in Finland there is an option that you can get a settlement with the insurance company. They pay you X amount of $$$ and you keep the car without the totaled label. Any comments if that works here too?

I could fix the bumper and the fender by myself if I just paid someone to straighten the little piece of the cab corner thats bent. The body is not the greatest part of my truck anyways but mechanically its sound and thats why I would hate to part from it.

yes the insurance will do that but if you bitch enough and cuss at them they will just fix it all your argument has to be is that its your only vehicle

Damn I wish i would have driven my Intrepid that afternoon... I would have loved to get rid of that POS. I think that I still have an argument since there is two people in the household and both me and my gf need our own cars even though I own them both.

The most annoying thing is that the insurance companies don't calculate any value to the countless hours you have spent working on your car.

thats far from totaled! thats shouldnt be even 3 grand of damage. i got t-boned in my 96 ranger ext cab and drove it to the shop... you should be ok.

it happened to me once i had a 94 10 dollar tempo even tho i only had 10 dollars in it and nothing else it was my only vehicle as the rangers motor was on a stand... they tried to total it and i started to raise hell and cuss... 75 percent of the worth of the vehicle is when they total it the work cost 1600 dollars and the car was worth 1800... by kbb it should of been totaled... but with a little attitude you have a shop doin it and no rebuilt title.. so i drove the car another 6 months and moved then the next wreck... i was driving a harvest truck to sell for my wifes uncle and he ended up monster trucking the 10 buck tempo with a tractor... so i now had the ranger and ended up makin 1100 dollars off of 10 and got to keep the car then sold it to a scapper for another 130.. i think i came out a little on top on that car makes up for the lean i had on the motor in the ranger...

damn looks like you got him more than he got you..haha glad your ok man...that guy in the colorado prolly has to put a coulpe airbags in his now

That's lovely, I don't see a reason for your truck being considered totaled visually it doesn't appear to have much damage but sometimes what doesn't look bad will show when its really gone over. I can't believe how much damage the Chevy ended up with compared to yours. Guess that's why Ford's slogan is "Built Ford Tough".

If you didn't screw up the frame or any major supports, you might be able to fix it your self with a couple of visits to the JY.

Yeah, it looks like the Chevy took a fair amount of damage compared to the Ranger, but it's designed that way, so the truck absorbs the impact, and not your body.

In a slower speed accident, it's not much of a big deal, but if this would have been a higher speed at impact, you would have a higher chance of getting injured than he would have. Your truck forces your body to take more impact...just sayin..

Now, I kinda doubt the insurance company will total your truck, that's expensive for them. Just get the highest settelment you can and then keep fixin' her up.

They don't build them like they used to! Get checked for whiplash too!

The problem with that logic(chevy's not yours) is that the guy whos body took the impact, OP, is just fine and the colorado is still totaled.

That's true, but Chevy cannot afford to NOT have the safest vehicles possible. Even if that means totalling a truck from a somewhat slow speed accident. They dont care, because they know that the insurance company of the driver is responsible for replacing the vehicle...with another one of their own...$$$. If you were to break your neck because the vehicle was determined unsafe, Chevy will be under attack..

EH, I'll stick with my ranger that I know first hand will survive a really rough accident. BTW My airbags and seatbelt kept me safe, not my front end eating itself :) . Not arguing, you are right, just giving my opinion

That colorado is defidently not totalled.
