Ford tractor ID help

So I finally got pics of my dad's old tractor. No one ever really knew anything about it other than it's a Ford and you put gas in it. I was the only kid in the family with interest in it. My dad passed away when I was just 11 so I never got to talk to him much about the tractor. I tried googling the info from the serial tag but can't tell if its a 8n, 9n, 2n or what. Anyone able to give me some info/specs on this beast? Here's some pics. BTW it's always been this "rust" color as long as I remember. Here's what I know:
It's a 4 cyl, 6v setup with points. 4 speed with the weirdest shift sequence ever, 3 point hitch on the back and I think it has a positive ground if I remember correctly?? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Ford 800, mid 1950s. the 600/800 series replaced the 8N/ 9N series from the late 40s.

My grandpa had 3 of them on his farm, I even helped paint one of them. great tractors.

It is a 800, it goes more in depth as far as options go though. like a 871 would be a 58-62 model 800 with Select-O-Speed transmission with single speed PTO and 3 point lift


Your tag is just for the engine, the actual tractor serial number IIRC is stamped on the transmission case.
 
Definitely older than mine which is a 59. :dunno:
 
From what I found its a Ford NAA, 1953-54. The descriptions match the tractor like 6v with positive ground, distributor toward the front, 4 speed trans, 3 pt hitch and pto. My dad always kept it running and when he passed away it sat for a few years under a lean to so it was pretty exposed since the lean to didn't have walls just a roof. Few years later me and my dad's friend got it running with a new coil, distributor, points, set the new points, plugs n wires, and a new kill switch. Once it was running I used it quite a bit leveling the driveway with the scraper blade and pulling trees out of the woods. Fun tractor for sure. It needs new tires now and i'm sure a battery and a tune up wouldn't hurt. Anyone done a 12v conversion on one of these? It would be a great project if I had space and time for a project.
 
The NAA was basically an updated 8N.
 
nice! you think thats a odd shift pattern, the 64 4000 I grew up with was a 5-speed, lever would go up and down (3-detents) and fwd or bkwrd for ratios. But it was still much different than the crap select-o-speed that was also offered. If I remember right the 800 series is a 172 cid engine, 600 series was a 134. in the early 60’s the 600 series became the “2000” and the 800 series became the “4000”. paint chenged then too from the cream/red (thats what yours was) to the blue/off white (but most 2000’s ive seen were all blue) If youre really lucky, theres a 2nd shifter on left side of trans case, a sherman over/under combination, which would give you 12 fwd ratios and 3 in reverse. My dad has a 46 2N, bought new the year he was born by his parents. It has the sherman “step-up” (overdrive) A great resource for info can be found at yesterday’s tractors.com Parts, information ect. just about everything is still available, including paint & paint prep products. the most expensive thing you’ll likely get into is tires, esp the rears.

We just rebuilt the engine on a 641 last year, it had the goofy three level shifter.

One thing about Ford tractors, good or bad you can't say they copied anyone... they marched to their own drum.
 
Yeah I don't think it has that special shifter on the side. From my memory it does not have it.... Anyway to redneck the tires back on the bead?

Add air?

They have inner tubes...

Honestly ive been around alot more N's then NAA's. My NAA experence is limited to the time i drove my old neighbors 2 miles down the road to pull his stuck pickup out of a field.
