I was wondering, can you take a 1999 5.0 that has the cam sensor (or what ever the thing is that there in place of the distributor) and remove it and put a regular distributor in its place (please don't tell me all of the benefits of keeping the system the way it is with all of its complex electronics - I'm limited in somethings and electronics isn't strong area for me)? I have a GM style HEI the I want to use. Ive got access to a running 5.0 in a Mountaineer that's wrecked. I would like to put a intake and a carburetor on there and drive it (no emissions testing or vehicle inspections in my state). Its for a nice Sport Trac that's got a bad power train. Other than sell the 5.0 and look for a 4.0 to replace it with and advice? Will the distributor, intake, work on a 1999 5.0 block? Thanks in advance for any words.

Rusty? Is that you in disguise?

Yes, you can pull the sensor and replace it with a distributor, and run a carb intake if you like.
