For those that have replaced leaf spring hangers...

Thanks. I blame this site for giving me a renewed enthusiam for keeping my truck as nice and maintained as possible. Before I discovered this site, my plan was to get 300,000 out of the truck, but now I would like to set my goal higher.

I would appreciate if you would post up when you start painting. It would be nice to gather info on this, as I will be tackling this as well.

My bushings finally showed up from Rock Auto so I decided to install them last night. I installed the first side with a long bolt and washers to draw the bushing in. The second side I used the bolt method to draw it in just enough so the puller would fit then proceeded with the puller. And in my opinion, the puller is the way to go, it went in a lot nicer than the 1st side.

So now it's just a matter of finishing up the rear end fluid change, checking all of the other fluids, put the bed on and drive it! And I can finally use the parking brake again!

Excellent! Did you have to do much sanding or grinding inside the spring eyes before they would fit?

Yeah, I need to change my diff fluid too. I should have done it when I had the bed off. What are you using to refill it, and how much?

Not really, I went after it to basically remove the "chunky" rust I could see. According to my Haynes manual, the rear end calls for:
API GL-5 SAE 90 Hypoid gear lubricant
Capacity= 5 pints
So basically 90 weight gear lube and don't forget the silicone sealant for resealing the cover

Ford calls for a small bottle of additive to be put in the rear axle prior to refilling with fresh gear oil. It's a friction modifier for the traction-lok rear end.

I got mine from the local Ford dealer, it was about the only thing in the entire dealership that was cheap.
