Noticed the wiring for the backup switch and neutral switch were switched.
A little background. Getting 1986 Ranger ready for my daughter (almost 16). Realized the reverse lights weren't working. New bulbs but no power at the sockets. Found the back up sensor switch on side of tranny. Sensor looked good so I tested the wires by completing the circuit but still nothing. While under the truck I noticed some wires ontop of the tranny. Inside the cab I pulled off the shift boot and noticed the neutral sensor was there but one of the wires was disconnected (i thought this might be the back up switch). Hooked back up but lights still didnt work. Unplugged those wires and connected them together and the back up lights worked!
Since they were wires with butt connectors someone put on themselves I ordered a new reverse light switch pigtail. Ill hook that up and connect to the side sensor and everything should be good for the backup lights if the switch is good) Wire colors match the diagram for the reverse lights BTW
Now my real problem. The neutral switch is bad, wires are corroded and doesnt look good. But I cant seem to find the correct switch online to replace it. On Rockauto and other sites I can only find the neutral safety switch...which I think is for automatics. So does anyone have a link or part number for it
I did find this but its only on european websites, it matches what I have there now
Also, the neutral switch wires that were plugged into the reverse switch were not spliced as far as I can see, they had the same type of connector that the backup light switch had. Is this correct?
Any help or opinions of why this was done please chime in
I attached a pick of my neutral switched I pulled
