FM132 to M5OD

Welcome to TRS :)

You should include your engine size and 2WD or 4x4 in most posts
Best guess would be 2.9l engine because of the FM132

M5OD-R1 transmissions are engine specific
So an M5OD-R1 from a 2.3l engine will only bolt to another 2.3l engine
Same for 3.0l M5OD-R1, it won't bolt to a 2.3l or 2.9l or 4.0l engine

Now the M5OD-R1 from a 4.0l WILL bolt to a 2.9l and visa versa, because they use the same block so have the same bolt pattern, but one of these would NOT bolt to a 2.3l or 3.0l engine.

And 2WD or 4x4 matters that needs to match as well, 2WD trans won't work in a 4x4 and visa versa.

And one other thing, 1998 and up M5OD-R1 transmissions do not have a speedometer cable hook up, 1997 and earlier do, assuming 2WD
Your 1990 needs speedometer cable hook up

Yes, it is a 1990 2.9L 2WD with an FM132, I was curious to see what my options are because the Mitsubishi transmission is shot.

You may need to change out the slave cylinder and the hydraulic line.

You will need to grind down the 6 rivets holding the trans cross member mounting ears to the frame and move them back. The holes are already there.

Floor will need modified a bit.

You will need to change the speedo cable.

You will need a drive shaft.

Pretty straight forward. All the issues you are likely to run into are covered extensively in the tech articles, and most are caused by the M5OD being a few inches longer.

What is different about the floor? The floor of the cab itself or just the panel around the shifter?

If it is just the plate around the shifter I would get one from a JY to go with your trans.

Neither. Its the location of the shifter that really makes the difference. On my 88 the shifter of the M5OD still hits a bit at the front of the hole.It isn't an extensive modification, and may not be needed on a 90, but if it is its just a hammer mod.

Ok, I was thinking a '90 having the M5OD for an option shouldn't take a whole lot of work to make it fit.

That's what I thought about my BII. It should have been roughly the same floor pan as a super cab Ranger, which could have gotten an M5OD that year.
