I just got one of these for free.

My question is....is it worth a dime for reading codes? Or is it just a tracker thing. Im gonna test it on the wifes escape when she gets home. But, just looking for input.

I don't know what it is. Got any pictures?

Its about the size of a thing of dental floss, plugs in the OBD2 port. I downloaded the app but it wouldnt let me go very far till i had it plugged into something. Wifes got my only OBD 2 vehicle.

If it's truly free, it is worth it. hardly anything is REALLY free. You know how a free car only needs an oil change, your already in it for 35 bucks and it ain't free no more. haha
Now whether it is worth keeping, or not, is a different story.

Probably worth hanging on to.

My dad has a similar device in his truck. Its not a good scan tool but it does read basic codes. Other than that its really just a maintenance reminder and tracks youre mileage and what not. Kinda a worthless gimmick in my opinion but free is free...

Rusty, do you have a smart phone?

For some reason I get the impression if rusty has a phone it requires dimes to operate... :icon_rofl:

Lmao. I do have a smartphone.

No actually my mechanic gave it to me. He bought a car off another customer for scrap and it was plugged into it. I asked him what he wanted for it, he just gave it to me.

Its 59.99 on amazon. App was free.

I have a similar size thing that plugs into obd2. It tells me my average speed, my top speed, panic stops and how many G's, and a bunch of other stuff I don't remember.

This thing is pretty bad ass.

It showed me 2 codes, plus a snapshot of every operating parameter that the engine was under when the code got thrown. Plus, you can set it up to feed real time data about everything from coolant temp to timing advance.

Plus its got a 0-60 timer :)...for track use only, of course.

Then do a detailed review lol.

maybe it has a g-force meter too... then you can see how many g's that baby is pulling on those blistering 0 to 60 times.

Those gizmos insurance companies give out have something like that. My buddy had one and everytime he braked hard or nailed the gas it would beep letting you know your driving like an ass. He took it out after 2 days when he realized it was not going to save him money lol.

I seen those things advertised here and there by different insurance co's. I always wonder can they use it to raise rates for crappy driving?
