few simple replacement parts to hopefully +mpg

been thinking about what i've been told...


i'm thinking i want to replace my ignition coil, my o2 sensor(s) (where is/are this/these at??), anything else simple like that? (those are both simple replacements right?)


88 2.9L 4x4 xlt
 
o2 is on the exhaust usually around the cat. area, ignition coil is in the engine bay, thinking the right side?
 
i just needed to know where the o2 sensor was... i know where my ignition coil is (at least i'm 99.9% positive... it's got a wire that goes from that to the distributor in the center right?)

yeah, the coil is on the drivers side fender, but if its working, theres no reason to replace it. the oxygen sensor is in the y-pipe, youll have to get to it from underneath the truck.
 
O2 sensor is in y-pipe. Under the truck where the two parts of the Y start to come together there is a little cross piece that runs between the two branches of the Y. That is where the sensor is. You only have the one.
 
soak it with pb blaster and let sit for a couple minutes and make sure the new one has a dab of anti seize on the threads
 
air and fuel filters of course. ignition wires, spark plugs
 
If the coils working, no need to replace it. Plugs and wires are a good start. I replaced the 02 sensor at 106k, but it didn't seem to improve my MPG.
 
Switch the fluids with fresh fluids (preferrably synthetics), A good wax never hurt... actually i don't know about you guys but I have found that I get about 1 mpg better after i wax my truck verse not doing so with a film of dirt on it on long trips. make sure everythings nice and tight bearings, u joints... ect.
 
o2 sensor's made a huge difference in my truck, and even like mentalbreakdown said, check your pressures. Huge difference in fuel economy and tire life in a 5 minute job every once and a while.

sorry, I'm a newb at all of this... what do you mean by ignition wires? The wires that are going from my coil to my distributor and distributor to the spark plugs?

the spark plugs are all roughly new, last fall. planning on doing an oil change, plugs, wires(now that it's been reccomended), and a new air filter

how tough is replacing the fuel filter on an 88 2.9L?

they state that it will work better than the OEM one, i was going to go with an MSD coil, for around 40 bucks

is there like a package that you can buy all of the precut vacuum lines? also, yeah i'm really gonna have to ask it i guess... (where is my intake?/how hard is it to clean it?/what to clean it with?)
 
It's ok, man. We were all new to this at one point like you are now.
 
you just buy vacuum lines by the foot. for starters tho your best bet would be first to do to your wires, they are a good start. Just remember do ONE at a time and make sure they fully click when you put them on.
