fever

Make sure your anti-freeze is mixed to the proper ratio, for your area. If to diluted, your radiator may be freezing. What is the outside temperature where you are? I had the same problems as you and found that my glycol tested down to -25 degrees but the outside temp was -50 degrees. Use a tester not appearance.

well it was tested at -43* celcius which is where it is supposed to be..if i don't get this thing fixed with the rad, i'm selling it..i can't keep pouring money in it cause i'm going to school soon...

If it makes you feel any better, I had a couple cars where nothing I did would get them to stop overheating. On one I had the radiator rodded and boiled out; the other was replaced with a new one.

I could not believe these were the same cars after the radiator work. There was no way you could overheat them in even the hottest weather. Hope you have the same luck.:headbang:

man i hope so..i get my rad tomorrow so i'll throw it in and hope for the best i guess..i went gravel-running today in the sloppy stuff and a few runs to the dump and it creeped past the middle part and went down on the gauge..i hope this will take care of it lol

how did you make out with the new rad? btw, when was the last time your water pump was done? might be time for one of them.

lol i picked up my rad today but i have been pretty busy with home renovations with my gf's dad..we are doing some early spring demolition hehe but i plan to by this weekend. my water pump is good; i had my buddy from work who is a tech check it over and say she's ready to rock. i will let you guys know what i find as soon as i do it for sure :headbang:

here is my update..and not very good, either.

Got the new rad in (easiest thing ever), spent an extra $5 on distilled water and topped it all up.
I think i have a different issue. I spent $214 on a rad and well, it doesn't do dick all. Here is the eerie thing. I was just bombin' down a backroad and the thing spiked to halfway between "normal" (the thermometer symbol) and the "H", then when i hit 145-150 km/h and held a steady speed the thing cooled off to where it should sit. WTF is up? i throw in the white towel here. The good thing is is doesn't hit the H anymore like it used to. So i must have done SOMETHING right.

Might as well throw a turbo engine in it. I am now commencing Project Turbo.

:icon_twisted:

Did you ever actually put a real mechanical gauge on the truck? I reread the thread and see a lot of suggestions to do it and promises that it would be tried, but no actual "I hooked up a mechanical gauge and it read the same on a couple test drives".
If you have not done this your problem may be partly or completely a bad stock gauge.

Maybe with all the things you had to consider in trouble shooting that point slipped by as it often can.

i think i have decided on getting a newer ranger anyways..i am having more than just the overheating issue (which with the more i drive it, the less it seems to overheat :icon_confused:); i just want to get a newer one all together. I am looking at getting a newer 3.0L ext cab 2wd. I need something more roomy in the cab and something a little more reliable while going to school. I have had a bunch of issues in the past year; i think its time i drew the line i guess

I know this sounds like a dumb question but did u put ur thermostat in right? (spring inside the engine)

yeah if your still having overheating issues, then you might have a blown headgasket. i just have to ask one more question, what color are you spark plugs?

dammit...lol....i will check the plugs maybe tomorrow. would there be tell-tale signs of headgasket issues if my plugs are weird?

do you have a clutch fan? it is posable that the clutch is bad on the fan and not locking up to pull more air flow through the radiator. i have seen it happen many times mostly chevy/gmc trucks but it does happen
