iim wanting to cut 2 and a half inches out of my fenders on my 97 ford ranger and i want to fold a half inch up to make it look clean wanting to know if people have done it and if so can i get some pics and info on it have a 6 inch skyjacker going on the truck this weekend and have 36 inch swampers but dont know if they will fit with the fender triming
thanks dakota

It could be done with a lot of time and patience, but would be easier just to put cut out flares on it.

i will put pics on later today maybe but i messed the driver side fender up while i was wheelin so i might practice on that fender

Ok, I am confused about the cut out flares. Everybody I know that has added the cut out flares has had to trim the fender area. Is this not the reason to add the cut out flares??

my bushwacker cut-outs give me clearance for a bigger tire with compressed suspension, they give me coverage for a wider tire so the po-po leave me alone, and they look much cleaner than just a cut fender

the kit gives instructions on how you can modify your plastic inner-fenders to work but i just left them off

Ok, so you did not cut the fender area? I am trying to view the fender lip area and it looks like it has not been trimmed since I can see a hole for mounting the fender on. I was going to add these once but so many people on the site said it will look funny since the fender stick out so far. I guess I won't know unless I can get somebody to give me a fender to just place on the truck and not actually mount it.

look at the size of that wheel-well........does it look stock? no i took almost 6" out. in the kit you take the piece you removed, trim it down to 2" wide, and cut it in 5 specified places that allow you to spread it to the shape of the new hole. and then you rivet it to the inner fender to mantain strength.

what you are seeing is the piece that was cut-out. modified and then riveted to the inside so that it doesn't just flop around

Man, you did a good job on that, Bro. I thought you might not have trimmed anything off. If I saw the truck from a different angle I would be able to see the differance in the fender wheel area. Great job putting it bact together.

also look at the broncoII badge as a reference point (i had to take the badges off because the flares actually overlapped them a bit) those 6" wide flares still don't cover my whole tire

i cut the whole fender "flare" out of my ranger in order to fit a 35 inch tire with only a 2 inch BL.

then i trimmed the cupped part outta the plastic fender, cut slits in it, and then screwed it to the fender support to seal off the engine bay as much as possible.

Got into my ranger badge when I cut mine to.You do remove a lot of fender to install those!
They are flimsy as hell to,if you do a lot of tight trail riding and prone to tree rash.....sell them and just cut your fender to clear the tire. They are as thin as paper.
I bought mine used from a member for a great price. If I would have paid the almost $400 bucks for them new I would have been Pissed.

they are thin but still worth it. they are available individually in case you mess them up

That is a lot of work, but it is still pretty neat looking!!!
