I have a 96 2.3L ranger and i was wanting to know a few things

Is this the MAF sensor? If so how would i go about putting a cone type filter on with this type of sensor?

basically, you aren't going to get more power by putting an open filter on the thing, and inside the housing is a cone filter, or close enough. They generally use the same air filter on the 2.3's as they do on the 4.0's, 4.0's are pushing 150hp, your 2.3 is about 105hp.

actually, oiled filters have a nasty habit of getting their oil all over the MAF sensor causing all sorts of running issues... Stock filter is fine, it's not the airflow limitation, I'm running a stock filter with ~170hp on my truck and it is working just fine...

THE thing that's limiting the airflow to the engine is the cylinder head, not anything before it, a port and polish apparently help a lot on these things

ive heard alot of accounts of people using K&N filters but not oiling them from that very reason you are talking about......rather than oiling them.....using the cleaning kit and let them air dry without oiling them. Ive heard alot of people that tune the 2.3's say the same about messing with or messing up the MAF.
My brother got me into the 2.3's as he is building a 2.3 turbo mustang. Yes i have heard that the factory head is very restrictive.....later i will be doing a little grinding and port and polishing
