Stripped allen heads come out easily with a hammer and a torx bit.

A couple different types of grease.

Some how both kingpins came out by hand. No cheater bar, no heat no nothing. I applied less than 40 footlbs of torque and they came out. They are supposed to be torqued to 650 ftlbs!!!!!!

Here is a question. How do you torque a kingpin stud to 650ftlbs when your torque wrench only goes to 150 ftlbs?

Like this.

If I had seen this before, i would have suggested going with the springless KP caps. I know they're $100, but in my opinion, completely worth it. There are other designs out there that are probably cheaper, but PartsMike is the first one that comes to mind when we're talking about king pins and axle rebuild parts. :icon_thumby:

That may be something I do in the not too distant future. I plan on keeping this axle for a long time. It will probably go under the ranger eventually and get high steer.

Do you know if they make the same thing with high steer arms?

You're a freakin' genius!!!

I'm a fabber myself, but you're smart and good at metalwork, sometimes my brain gets a little confused on what I'm doing:icon_twisted:.

But if you make it yourself, then whose to tell you your wrong? Fabbin's fun.:icon_thumby:

HYDROBOOST!!!!!

OH YEAH...I LUV IT. my ranger has never stopped so nice. even with 40 plus tires it binds down better then 33's and stock brakes.

as to the torqu thing,i always try to find 600 pound tq wrenches...my old pawnshop 450 pounder actually came with an extension and chart, accuracy was decreased to x percent with it...but good for 900 according to the deal i had. and it was a short extension, bout 2/3 the length of the wrench which was nearly 4 foot long. it was a imperial/rinker machine tool iirc. dont know if it was borrowed out or stolen. i have not seen it since i moved from detroit.

been thinkin of the springless caps myself. my springs are already weak and it wopbs out with the 42's on it.

i know i like the hydroboost on my ranger. i pulled it from my van i took the 6.5 diesel from. its old but works sweet.:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

Sweeeeeeet.....

Yea, last fall, I picked up a 60 from a 91 F350. Great front axle if I do say so myself. It was to go under the Ranger, but plans changed and I decided school was more important and I sold it for tuition $$. I'm gonna pick up another one here this summer if everything goes according to plan. I just bought an 01 Honda 400EX quad tho, so money's a little tight right now, so it might be towards the end of summer.

The guy who I sold it to did exactaly what you just did to his 97 stroker 250. He also did a shackle reversal though at the same time so it didn't ride like fawk anymore. That's something I'd really recommend to anyone (like you) with one of those trucks. Plus, it'll level it out and give you like 2" of lift or something, if you're into that.

Nice job though.
