I recently picked up a 1993 F250 diesel to use as a tow rig and a daily driver until i can get my ranger back on the road. Inevitably I find myself wanting to build it up a little bit better. I just didnt think it would happen this quickly.
Specs.
7.3L N/A IDI diesel
ZF 5spd
BW1356 manual tcase
3.55 gears
D50 TTB front
10.25 rear
Electric brake controller
Here are the plans for the truck.
1) High pinion kingpin D60 swap. The axle is out of a 1990 F350. It needs to be refreshed but is in otherwise good condition.
2) Hydroboost conversion. Change from vacuum assisted brakes to hydraulicly assisted brakes. This conversion effectively doubles the stopping power, increasing average line pressure from around 1100 psi to around 2200 psi.
3) Fix the rot above the rear wheel wells.
Here is how she looks now.
Here is the axle that will be getting swapped in. It has matching gears and needs only brakes. The brake parts on the D50 TTB will bolt right on so I will use those parts. It will get new ujoints bearings seals and kingpings if needed. It will also be sand blasted and painted before being put under the truck.
Here is the hydroboost unit that I pulled from a 1992 F450.
