I was just wondering if anybody had heard if the f150 is still going to get the diesel that was all over the internet a couple of years ago. That still has me thinking about a half ton... Hell at this point if they would shoe horn the 6.2 into the lariat I would probably bite the bullet and get one of those.

Which 6.2? If you are going to buy a 6.2L gasser in a Lariat just spring for a Raptor.

Actually the raptor is cool, however, I want a truck that can tow, wheel, move alot of poop (my wife has huge garden) topsoil, lumber for our remodel hell, haul away the concrete ruble from our remodel hell. and in general do everything except be a race truck.

Raptor can wheel (1st Ford ever to have a factory selectable locker), it can be equipped with tow pack, and I'm sure that you can put just as much stuff in the bed as any other crew cab F-150.

Its just like the lighting was, yeah, its a "race truck" except they tried to gear it more towards off-road stuff rather than street performance like the lightning, but in terms of work it can do just as much as any other F-150.

You really think the Lariat, or an even bigger joke, the King Ranch, were meant to be work trucks. Heck no, they were meant to be cars. Those things are more comfortable than Crown Vics.

I want 2 things from my truck:
A bed I can put stuff in, and
An interior that is comfortable, but that I'm not afraid to mess up.

I don't NEED 4x4 for snow, if I'm that desperate I'll get a FWD car and put snow tires on the front. I certainly don't haul people in the Ranger. There is barely enough room for me and the girl and all our crap when we go home for a weekend b/c my bed is full of tools and gear lube, and PVC pipe. Anyone want so PVC pipe?

Raptor will do all that stuff and probably then some. The 6.2 Triton isn't going to magically become any more capable because you put a different grill and a Lariat badge on the truck.

The new 6.2 will be available in any F-150 here in the near future. Go to www.fordvehicles.com and build & price an F150. The 6.2 is listed as an engine choice when you build one but you can't select it yet.

Actually the 2010 FX4 f150's all come with the same electronic locking rear diff.

The motor you are thinking off is the 4.4L turbocharged diesel V8. Not sure if Ford is still going to make it but I can find it as an engine choice for the F-150 on the parts look up system even though nothing is available for it.

4.4 is to small for a fullsize what they should do is put that little baby in a ranger

Physically speaking though a 4.4 L diesel is still huge. Plenty of power too.

Im drooling right now.....

I did check out the raptor and it is more fun and less "work". I need a work horse, I will probably go f250. which is a little bigger then I need. but I haul stuff alot. it is more important then towing for me. Hence the bigger payload. I do like the f150 but I want/need an 8' bed. I also want!!! heated leather seats. I would hope that the lariat f150 gets the long bed with the 6.2 (perfect setup for me) or that 4.4 mini powerstroke (another perfect setup.) But I do like the solid axle set up of the superduty. Yes I want very comfy saddle on my work horse.

Not saying I got anything against comfort. That's why my 87 RANGER has and EXPLORER interior. I don't like the nice leather seats that nobody wants me to touch when I'm dirty from WORKING ON THEIR CAR!!!

my leather, my grease, my toasty warm ass! LOL, I do get your point though...

As a builder of the F150s in Kansas City, the news on the diesel is that it's still shelved. They don't plan to introduce it until fuel prices warrant it. As of right now, diesel is still considerably higher than gas and they just can't seem to justify it. It would be a great idea, then there'd be the added towing and payload abilities and whatnot. It is the aforementioned 4.4L. The way things are going, I'd bet a hybrid will come out before the diesel. As for the 6.2L, I believe it will be available in the 2011 model. I myself want one cause I think the 5.4 is gutless, although the new 6-speed tranny has helped with that and the mileage. I don't think Ford will ever wise up and offer an 8' bed with a crew cab and I'm pretty sure you can't get an 8' in a Lariat at all. We are the only plant that builds the 8' beds cause Detroit can't run them on their line and not a single one is a Lariat or FX4 for that matter. You can, however, now get the bed extender on any size bed (5' 6' or 8') which could turn the 6' into an 8' essentially. If you're serious about buying a new one, or any new Ford for that matter, let me know and I can give you an X-plan pin number to save you a couple more bucks.

I hate Hybrids... there really is no sense to them... You get Great Mileage when you just drive it around (like probably 80% of truck owners do) but when you have to do real work they limited the engine a bit to get the hybrid stuff in there that it isn't as powerful and gets crap mileage. A diesel on the other hand gets good mileage not doing anything and... good mileage towing stuff... gasp!
