EZ OIL DRAIN VALVE... a few quick questions.

RE: shims, spacers, crush-washers... I think I've got it covered... sent my trained rat into the rat's nest, and he came back with: Fel-Pro nylon Ford-V6-specific washer (Part #72515), about 0.085" thick, and from the M5OD maintenance episode, aluminum crush washers ~70 mils thick, and copper crushies ~40 mils thick... I just gotta "sack up" and go for it!:ROFLMAO:

Indeed it should be easy to lefty-loosey an oil drain plug (isn't the official torque spec. only 20 ft-lbs.?...), BUT... about half the time I let "the shop" change mah oil+filter, and they must use Ye Olde Air Impact Driver to tighten it 'cause I'm under there with the breaker bar and the rubber mallet and... the foul language!:p

That wouldn't have occured to me, no one else has ever changed the oil on my vehicles. My techs new how to tighten drain plugs but the old guy who just did oil and tires when I started in 1975 would torque them up like lug nuts.

Did he "retire" to Flori-DUH?... he has MANY disciples down here! :icon_rofl::thefinger:

I have the twist, knob kind of drain valve that is a similar concept to the lever operated drain valves on the 2011 and on the Honda CR-V I owned. It has worked pretty well and I've never had any issues with them. They do need hit with some brake cleaner from time to time to clean out the dust and dirt that will build up in them. I'll see if I can find it and post a link. It has been a while since I got one and I don't remember where I got it. So, it may take me a bit.

EDIT: If you are still looking when I get home. I can see if I have any documentation on it. It wasn't listed on amazon and I am nowhere even close to being able to running home to check.

I have nothing in my records. So, whatever brand it is and where I got it is lost to time.

Follow-up: Installed the EZ-Valve 106 a couple weeks ago, and it timed-up to 7:30, so not ideal, but out of the way, and since it has such a nice countersunk O-ring, didn't want to risk shimming it enough that it got tight 225 degrees sooner. 14 days and several heat-cool cycles later, and still LEAK-FREE... which is a relief since dating back to this thread, original drain plug DID turn out to be cross-threaded by tire-shop hosers! (Oil Pan female threads seem fine though... valve screwed in smoothly.)

Anyway, left the elbow attachment OFF, since that WOULD protrude below the oil pan... will hand-tighten it on when it's time for the next oil change, that way I won't have to guess how far back to put the drain bucket, lol... (instead it will probably splash in all directions, from striking at a perfect 90-degree angle...;missingteeth; )

So I know a "real Ranger-man" ALWAYS changes his own oil, but I'm sorry, if I'm in for something else I CAN'T do (tires, alignment, flugelbinder valve, etc.) and they say they'll do it for $30, incl. oil + filter, I should be able to take advantage of that, but... I guess HAND-threading that drain plug until snug is too much to ask...

... OTOH, even though this EZ-Valve should make it fool-proof, Nature is always making a better fool! :bawling:

PS: kinda "funny" how ALL 5 of the Fumoto products for Le' Ranger also ALL use '106' in their model #'s... ;)
