So i bought a used shifter when i bought my a new tranny(rebuilt). My hurst shifter is extremely stiff and is hard through most gears. The instructions did not say anything about lubing the shifter. I'm curious to know if this is what is supposed to happen, anyone have this problem, and a way to fix it if it is a problem. I hoping it has nothing to do with my tranny.

I bought a used Hurst shifter and am extremely happy with it.
But they do come with an adapter to compensate for different stock shifters, the length of the arm going into the tranny can be different. Perhaps that is your problem. I went to the Hurst website to download instructions. AFAIK there is only one Hurst shifter made for the RBV's.
Good luck,

Richard

No this definitely has nothing to do with the length of the shifter. It falls perfectly into my hands when i reach for it.

No, the opposite end. The end that goes in the tranny can be different lengths. At least that's what I learned from the instructions. I think it depends on type of tranny. There is an adapter that fits between the shifter and the tranny that will raise or lower the shifter ~ 1/2".

Well, to make shift throw shorter, the pivot point changes. This means it requires more force to do the same amount of work in a shorter distance. This was one of the reasons I got rid of the Hurst in my Dakota.

That's true but not what I'm talking about. I'm saying that the OP may have got the used shifter without the proper adapter to make it work with his tranny.

littlehat, did you get an adapter [with extra gasket and longer screws] that fits on the bottom of the Hurst pedestal ?

Richard

well the screws are definitely longer because it has to go through the whole shifter assembly to get to the holes. The shifter peice that fits inside the tranny also seemed to be the same size as the regular shifter. I have never used the oem shifter because i bought the tranny used and it didnt come with shifter bolts, so i can't compare the too.

I'll try to remember to take a pic in the next few days.

Richard

thanks i appreciate it. this thing is driving me crazy and about to try and get my hands on a new oem shifter if i can't find a way to make it smoother.
