Extra wire from transfer case

Probably only if you're moving. I would expect it to have voltage until the controller senses that the t-case is in 4-hi. Then it would de-energislze the motor and the clutch.

I don’t understand why everyone wants to cut and splice that wire when it takes 10 seconds and a pick to pop it out of the connector

I wasn't as familiar with the connectors back then. Plus, I was under the truck, on my back, holding the motor in my hand with no tools to pick the connector apart and I wanted to get out of there with the motor.

I just set the shift motor on the skid plate, it’s a handy place to stash it, lol
