extending jack stands?

An extra messure of safety for the wooden cribs would be a square plate of 1/8" slightly bigger then each leg of each stand (or all four legs of each stand), this will NOT allow the leg to act like a splitter and open up the top 2x4 or 4x4 of each crib.

4x4 would (or RR ties) would be my choice, if I had to go that route.

I've been using a couple pieces of cut sandstone under my 6-tons for working on my choptop. IIRC, they're about 8" thick. I just throw a piece of 3/4" plywood or 2x12 pressure treated on top. I looked at getting a taller stand, but I think the 12 tons are only like an inch taller than the 6 ton. One of these days I'll get around to investing in a 2-post lift though. Right now it'd be nice just to have a slab to work on instead of a limestone driveway.

I don't see why cribbing wouldn't work, I would probably use some plywood for setting the stands on though, it resists damage from the feet on a jackstand far better than a 2x4 or whatnot. And if I screwed it together, I'd use some Spax screws. They look a lot like the regular "drywall" type screw, but they're actually rated for structural use - I have some 3" long #8s that are rated for something like 900 lb sheer strength and 1200 lb pull-out. Oh, and they're made in either Germany or the good ol USA. I know a lot of Home Depots have 'em and for what they are, they're not all that expensive.

It worked and i still use them to this day.......

Landscape timbers and 2X4's. I NEVER had any trouble with them.

That would be sweet. I have seen an air powered lift here for about $2500 (Beijing special) that looked pretty interesting. Would be a tough sell trying to explain to wife why I needed it though.

i wish i could remember the thread it was in... within the last year or so... 2 members got a nearly free b2, and were modifying the crap out of it... turkey bay comes to mind...

i remember them saying the "contraption" was very short term, just long enough to roll the frame out from under the body or something... might have been lifted there with a loader or something...

It was Jay, nothin wrong with what he did, it was just the gutted out body and he wasn't working under it. It was an easy way to roll a new frame under it
