how good are the 96-98 v8 explorer tubular manifolds are they worth buying I've got a 84 mustang gt motor that I bought from my friend and he says it has shorty headers from advance adapters but I don't know if they will work on the B2 what I'm saying will shorty headers made for a mustang work on this swap

If you look at the Ex headers, you won't want them if you have any performance interests.

I'm not sure if the shorties will work, but I think not.

The only O.E. Stang header that fits is the drivers side 94-95 piece. The passenger side headers require notching the frame rail to work. The Explorer headers ? :icon_rofl::icon_rofl: If you're OK with Lo-po , they'll do. If you're going to do any upgrades to power production, all they'll do is choke it. Ford Racing did make an improved set of these, but they're long out of production.

new information I talked to my friend again and he said he bought the headers from advance adapters for his swap. Which was putting the ford v8 into a toyota truck and I went to the site and it lists the same part number as the b2 swap for the v8 717044 can anybody confirm this for me this would be so great not having to blow 300 on headers thanks

Cast iron manifolds would flow better than them junk as$ pinched off explorer headers.:icon_rofl: Aftermarket deffinatly the way to go.

Are stock mustang headers from a 93 GT better than the explorer headers?

lets clarify here. it appears that confusion is being created by you mis-using the word "header"

there are very, very few vehicle that came with "stock-headers". and as far as i know mustangs did not

to really dumb down the definitions: headers are made tubular. manifolds are made from cast iron

'79+ Mustangs did come with shorty headers and neither side out of a '93 fit in a Ranger well. The drivers side out of a '94-95 is supposed to fit good, but the passenger side is the same as previous years and points at the frame, so for a matched set it won't do you any good.

I think the Mustangs have used 409 SS tube headers since '87'. I think it more a matter of flow design than the material in what you call it. The old Maxi-Wedges ran what was called headers but were cast iron. Anybody what to see some good pictures of the Explorer tube headers? I toss mine right away.

exactly, cast iron can be tubular........no one said it couldn't :dunno:

:D What Ford called "Headers" didn't appear til the 85 model year. And they weren't exactly "free flowing" :D They're all somewhat "pinched" at the head ports to gain clearance for the factory bolts. They're pinched in various other places too, to gain clearances for other reasons as well.

Pinched ain't the word for it,I never really looked at them after trying to make them work for so long till I scored the Hookers.

Had to rework the collector on the Passenger side but well worth it.

Maybe a better picture of the pinched stock tube headers and the cast iron versions.
