what are th stock axles in the 1993 for explorer 4x4 and would it be worth it to put them into my 1986 ford ranger

d35 and 8.8, d35 is a bolt in affair, aside from needed to shorten the front driveshaft 2", the rear 8.8 will need new spring perches mounts and shock mounts welded on....look in the tech library its the most common upgrade for axles in rangers

Your Ranger probably has the Dana 28 and a 7.5 rear. If you are going to thrash it, the 35 is a worthwhile upgrade and as long as you are at it, you might as well plan on the 8.8. The 8.8 is stronger than the 7.5 (at least the ones with 31 spline axles) but more importantly, the 35 will be wider than your stock 7.5.

Yep d35 and 31 spline 8.8(w/ drums). Thats a good combo.

i have the explorer axles all ready to go but how much extra stuff would i have to buy in order for thid to work and would a ranger suspension lift kit work with the front and rear explorer axles in the ranger

Yes, the lift will work much better than your run on sentance. ( Sorry, had to say something )

Yes a kit would work, but you need to grind the sway bar mounts and the spring perches off the exploder axle, and then reweld new ones on the opposite side, along with shock mounts. You'll need a angle finder to find the pinion angle. Check out the Tech Library for more info.

Only need to shorten front shaft 1".

you can do every thing your self, not hard, just do your research be for you start. im doing my explorer swap this weekend, ill get some pics for you.

or you can just use the sploder t case and front shaft if it has the same trans.

you can spring load the slip too sometimes and run the sploder shaft with some clearancing and a single joint. cause likely you have a manual t case.

well i have the whole truck 4x4 and i was planing on putting the t case in there so is that a bolt up

Swap in an 8.8 from a 1995+ Explorer. It has disc brakes. There's no reason to mess around with drums on a wheelin rig.

You already have the axle, so go the the yard and try to trade yours plus some cash for a disc brake axle or just buy and swap on discs. The yard around here sells the brackets off an axle for almost nothing, and then you can get the calipers and rotors at a parts store for under $150.
