How much of a difference in sound and performance is there in a 2.5 size tailpipe compared to a 1.75 tailpipe???

2.5 inch pipe diameter basically makes your engine sound deeper and beefier, it also adds a little more foot/lbs of torque and a few horses as well, but i must warn you, u dont wanna go over a 2.5 inch tailpipe on a ranger. if u go any bigger, u'll actually lose sum low end torque and horsepower. So do urself a favor, dont go any bigger than 2.5 inch pipe diameter size.

If u want major sound change, u oughta look into a new muffler. I'd go with a Flowmaster Super 40 series, or the Super 44 series mufflers, those are hands down in my opinion, the best sounding mufflers for a ranger, im not a fan of any of that glasspack ricer shit, but its ur choice.

thats not exactly true i got a 5" Stack on my truck i did get that boot of torque and horsepower "altho i did lose like 1 mpg lol:D tho it could be my lead foot" :icon_thumby:

U got a 5 inch stack on ur ranger? lol, thats pretty neat, I didnt know u could do that 2 a ranger, thats pretty kool. is ur ranger diesel?

If that's for real I guarantee that you're losing low-end power compared to the stock 2.25" exhaust piping.

ive lived in jax fla and when the rain comes there are no trees to slow it down buddy. on a side note i am afraid to hear what that thing sounds like and you better have the cat on it or you have no backpressure=burnt valves.

Backpressure isn't really a concern in this instance IMO. There is no need for backprssure in a N/A appliction, and lack thereof won't cause any engine damage. The real issue is the loss of exhaust gas scavenging due to a reduction in exhaust gas velocity. Even with the cat there would be a significant loss in exhaust gas velocity using that big of an exhaust pipe. The large area inside the pipe causes the exhaust gases to cool=slow down and "get lazy" It's simple thermodynamics, really. The velocity of gases are directly correlated to their temperature. The hotter the gas, the faster it moves, which is what you want when attempting to scavenge an engines exhaust by-products. By keeping the exhaust piping in the 2-2.5" range, the exhaust gases are kept at a high enough temperature/velocity to efficiently remove combustion by-products from the motor. After all, the team of engineers at Ford who designed these vehicles chose this side of piping for a reason (stated above).

backpressure is a problem, any engine w/ a straight pipe or catless w/o retuning will burn the piss out of valves. the engine doesnt scavenge properly and the heat sits in the manifolds driving head temperatures thru the roof=burnt valves. an engine w/ no cats/backpressure dumps fuel thru the valve and the valve doesnt have the leftover fuel to cool the valve. a pipe w/ cats and straight piping scavenges greater pulling the fuel thru the cat faster than normal creating the same problem just not as bad. there is a fine line of balance here to keep backpressure up to keep this from happening. most tuned exhaust systems actually use sound waves to create backpressure while still allowing the exhaust to flow. a 5 inch pipe isnt helping create any sound for backpressure or anything else, much less scavenge properly making it to where the heat just sits in the manifolds.

it dose have a system of 2" pipe (it goes from 2 -2.5 -3.5 -4 -5) and it sounds great no cats but it dose have a muffler
