Hello, happy new years :D
Recently I had a P0171 code and have narrowed it down to an exhaust manifold leak. It looks like a bolt snapped off at some point from the previous owner and thats what is causing the leak.
Question is, how much would a mechanic or an exhaust shop cost to fix and take out the bolt? My tools and knowledge is very limited so I don't plan on taking everything apart for a damn bolt lol

Could a sealant like JB Weld fix my issue? The leak isn't that bad, but I do believe is what is causing my rough idle.

Any thoughts and advise is welcomed

Labor price is going to vary widely. For that it is best to call around to a few local shops and just ask what it would cost to have the manifold replaced. Be up front about the one bolt that is already broken.

I would go whole hog on it and actually have the manifold replaced. The V6s aren't as bad as the Triton V8s and 10s, but in my experience a bolt that is snapped flush like that happened because the manifold warped. One that broke because someone tried removing it is more likely to break closer to the head.

Since they are pretty much going to have to take the manifold out to remove that bolt, you may as well have a new one thrown in, especially if it is likely warped.

When you call to ask for estimates make sure to ask if they will install a part that you supply, rather than buying through the shop. A shop can buy parts from parts stores cheaper than you can, and will charge you list, which is usually anywhere from 10-30% higher than retail. If you order from Rockauto you may be able to get it much cheaper than buying locally, but always remember to compare prices AFTER shipping is figured.

If one is broken chances are there are a few more that aren’t far behind. Your best bet is to bring it to a mechanic and get them to pull the manifold off, clean the head, remove all of the studs and replace with new studs and gasket.

We’ve had quite a few manifold jobs lately at work (ford fleet mechanic) and most of them aren’t too bad of a job but I did have a V10 that I had to actually remove the cylinder head to get all of the studs out. That is the absolute worse case mind you.

I would typically say that a ranger with a V6 would be a 2-4 hour job but it could be more depending on what shape the truck is in. Most shops will charge you per hour on a job like that.

Ok thanks guys for the response, I was debating on whether I should have them change the manifold or not but Rock Auto doesn't list the 'Right' exhaust manifold, only the left one.

You can have manifolds surfaced by a machine shop to have them trued up too.

It is pretty cheap to have done too.
