EX auto tranny to manual swap


There's a place where they cut into the floor for a stick shift in an auto? wow.

They just make one body. The difference is the block off plate in the floor.
 
This is a list of what you need to make it look 100% stock:

Trans
Starter
Flywheel
Block plate
pedals
flywheel bolts
trans bolts
clutch
clutch bolts and dowel pins
throw out bearing
pilot bearing
master
slave
clutch line
floor plate
shifter
shifter boot and bezel
shifter knob
PRNDL block-off plate (blank plate for instrument cluster)
manual trans steering column
man trans computer
A few qts of ATF
clutch pedal position switch
trans harness (for man trans)

All of these parts are not NEEDED to do the swap, but they are different between the auto and manual.

If i missed anything, somebody chime in.
 
There are some more parts in this list than on the one on explorerforum. It doesn't necessarily HAVE to look stock......

I really wanna do the swap, but my husband says its not worth the time or money. I don't see me getting a newer vehicle anytime soon, and I love my rig. He says I don't go outdoors enough to worry about making into a 5 speed. But that's what I want...what do you guys think?
 
I also read some where that to do this swap you need three plugs....I dont know what they go to and I have no idea what they're for..
 
The trans range sensor sends signals for neutral and reverse. Those are done by other stuff on the M5OD. That will need to be dealt with. The 3rd might be the clutch switch which doesn't NEED to be done but it should be if you have cruise or e-shift 4x4.
 
What do you mean 'dealt with'......if I find a manual wiring harness and computer for the tranny, shouldn't that take care of all electrical stuff?


I DO have cruise and push button 4x4, so I have to do the clutch pedal switch. Need a diagram on that too lol.


Luckily I'm buying a used factory shop manual, hopefully that will show me how to put this crap together.......
 
I mean that you will need to do something with them.

And yes, a manual harness will take care of that.
 
OK. Man, this IS starting to sound like a BIG BIG project. Maybe I'm just better off selling my auto and finding a 5 speed......

You dont have to replace the whole harness, just the trans harness. Its a short harness that attaches to the main harness and goes to the trans. You just unplug the auto harness and plug in the manual harness.
 
OHH. Gotcha!

So when I go to swap the computers, the main wiring should hook up to the manual computer just fine correct? Then, I hook up the trans harness..

It is a project, but not all that big. With the right parts its plug and play. If you can turn a wrench and plug in connectors, you can do it.
 
I CAN turn a wrench and plug in connectors by golly LOL! Alot of women wouldn't even think of touching their oil, let alone tearing apart a transmission!! LOL!

FWIW. Im still using my auto computer. I found the wires that needed to be dealt with and ddealt w them. Its not that bad.
