Evaporator Core

My 88 B2 A/C has gone bad and most of the system is removed. My question is when I remove the plastic housing around the coil to remove the coil can I leave the housing OFF ?? Or will that affect the heater core area??? Thanks for the help... "Go Huskers"

The outer air box? You can't leave that off, shit will get in your cab.
