Escorts 2nd SAS

You running a jeep disconnect??

No his doesnt have the disco on it.

I just cant convence myself to put a sway bar on mine, one day will just be my offroader and I dont want to have to get under it to disconnect it, just want to jump right in the mud and have fun.

i want to build some kind of front bumper not sure what i want to do yet. I do want a winch and the bumper should reinforce the front alot.
I have seen many different designs and trying to decide on a tube or just a solid type. Maybe some input on it would help some.

the jeep disconnects are expensive. For as little offroad this truck will see its not worth spending $100 when i made what i have for $27. Two wrenches and i can have one side off in 15 seconds...

IMO I would go with a soild bumper. Flat surfaces everywhere to mount stuff and you dont have to worry about benting tube.

As for winches what would be a good one when it comes to pulling power do you think? I was thinking about an 8,000lbs one, smittybuilt has them for $299 and for an extra $100 a 10,000 one?

As for bumpers, Im going to work with what I have in the front and mod it as needed, I just dont have the heeart to get rid of it but the rear bumper has got to change.

if i was doing it, i'd do a smittybilt xrc8 comp.. synthetic weighs less-- but then again-- i'm old school i guess and like wire cable ...?...

Hit 500 miles this morning. Time to change the diff oil and check the wear marks on the ring gear.
Now i can start driving it...

i'm running the xrc8 and have had it stalled a couple time's just had to re-rig cable's and use a snatch block. which work's fine until you have a 70 foot plus pull.(been there too). however it has never left me stranded. i now carry an extra 100' of cable with two eyelit's wraped around my rear bumper for those really long pull's. next step is to find a pull pal.

I am quite disappointed. I though this was going to be an SAS on an Escort.

If that was the case then it would be in the non-rbv section.

Seeing that an 8,000lbs winch can do the job, thats what I will put on my truck. Now the trick is saving up for it, dont want to get a used one, never know what hell it has been put through.

I like mine too, would buy it again ten times if I had to do it over that many times, the eleventh I might buy something different, just because. A snach block is a must, I have stalled mine and smoked my battery. I am thinking about getting synthetic line for mine to save a few lb's and just to be cool:icon_twisted: I also carry about 40' or so of tug straps for the longer pulls.

i always was told if your doing that synthetics were not good unless your strictly a rock crawler. once dirt and mud gets in them they start breaking line real easy

i like old school wire cable...
but synthetic is alright for trails and rocks. real mud-- i wouldn't use it. even on rocks you need a rock shield.. it slides over the line to put it where the line rubs rocks or anything

If i had to do it all over again it would come down to what kinda cash i had in my bank account. if i had the extra 100 buck's ide prolly shell out for the xrc10 even tho the line speed is slower then the8 i think i could deal with that. the 8 really struggle's when your in wet heavy snow. but in all reality i guess it's good since i know i'm not gonna start tarin stuff out from under my truck. when your bumper deep in the white stuff it can take awhile to shovel it out enought for the winch to get you back ontop.

Okay dumb question....whats a snatch block. Im still learning all this stuff, would rather learn from all of you then googleing it all.
