need to no what engine wiring harness will fit my 1987 ranger, mine has a erg. i have a 89 bronco ll same motor tranny but the ranger is a 87

86 or 87 are your only real options.

88 deleted the EGR system, so the wiring is also gone. 89 changed everything completely. 85 and earlier was carb'd, so those won't work either.

Are you going to use the 1987 computer?

I think you could use the 1989 computer and wiring harness on the 1987 engine, the EGR valve would just not be used
But you may need to swap over more of the engine harness that you want, i.e. fuse box and relays

IIRC, 8DT computer will run an 86/87 harness no issue.

@rusty ol ranger is running my old 1988 computer on his 1987. I believe it was plug and play.

Just unhook/block off the EGR the later harness will be fine. As @PetroleumJunkie412 stated his later ECM plugged in and functions just fine in my 87.

Everything said in here so far is correct. How much of it is useful depends on exactly what the OP is trying to do.

If he wants to transplant the 87 engine into the 89 body, then it will be plug and play, just block off the EGR.

If he wants to put the 89 engine in the 87 the reverse applies, he will likely need to switch one exhaust manifold and the intake to add the EGR system.

If he wants to move harnesses between the vehicles the most efficient way to go about that is to also take the dash from the donor. The 1st gen (83-88) RBVs used a "root", a big rubber grommet that had about 6 or 7 legs of wiring that runs through the firewall into the engine bay and individual connectors at the end of each leg. The gen 2 (89-92) used the BWP (Big White Plug), which is two halves that bolt together at the firewall to connect the dash and engine bay harnesses and these are 100% incompatible.
