Would a 1998 4 cylinder 2.5L SOHC engine with automatic transmission from a 1997 Ranger fit in a 1997 3.0l automatic Ranger??

And would I have to replace the harnes and computer??

Thanks.

If your swapping the motor and trans, you'd have to modify motor and trans mounts, adapt the wiring harness/ computer, swap drive shafts, ETC ETC.

Yes, you could do it, but unless you have a LOT of free time you're better off finding a 4cyl truck to replace the 3.0 truck. And may I ask why you’re looking into this swap?

no swap

It is to get a 1997 3.0l automatic 7' box with a busted tranny on the road. I can buy a 2.5l engine with tranny cheaper than a used tranny for the 3.0l.

If I could find an 1997 automatic tranny for the 3.0L that would be great and I would go for that.

I like the fuel efficiency of the 4 cylinder.

it has been said here before, with enough money and time anything will go into anything, but why???

it would be so much simpler to replace/rebuild the current setup.

:D :D :D
