So I've got a 02 3.0 and it's started making this noise knocking type noise. I've looked at the rocker arms and I've recently done the rod bearings as well as the exhuast manifold gaskets. The noise seems to echo out the exhaust which I find very odd because it doesn't sound very loud under the hood. Laying underneath it is louder but being by the exhuast really echos it for some reason.
This is a video of it it wouldn't let me upload the file directly for some reason.

Sounds like a rod knock to me

Auto or manual?

When engine is cold remove fan belt from crank pulley
Start engine, battery light will stay on that's OK

Engine bay will be very very quiet with no fan or accessories spinning
Much easier to hear and locate noises, or lack of noise if it was coming from an accessory pulley bearing

You can only run the engine for 1 to 2 min without the water pump, but you can REPEAT this type of test anytime engine is cold again

I'll give her a shot tomorrow

You will be amazed at how QUIET the engine bay is without the fan and accessories
But remember there is a time limit

It could *possibly* be a loose or busted manifold.

But it really sounds like a knock

That's what's got me stumped because I did the rod bearing and checked the wrist pins and they seemed alright. I have a snapped stud on each manifold but when i did the gaskets I tightened them down pretty good. I'll have to look at them again.

So I think I'm just gonna replace all the rocker arms / pushrods I must have missed something up there and its probably time for those to go anyway. The noise must be playing tricks on me with where the problems at. I've rechecked all my work on the bottom end and tested to see if one of my valves is burnt/not seating all the way and all seems fine. Rocker arms are seeming tricky to find I didn't know if anybody knows of any good sets upgraded or not ill take either.
