Engine hiccup under load

Well ford called me, my dads price plus labor is $580. LMAO. They said the MAF sensor is leaking, they want to replace it ill reseal it. PCV valve is bad, ICM is bad, and egr position sensor is bad. Well for what my ranger is worth ill be taking a trip to pull a part. Where is the ICM and EGR position sesnsor located at?

The ICM on a 93 hangs off the intake manifold near the front...can't miss it...just behind the PS pump...usually! Someone may have moved it if it was causing a problem due to heat...

The EGR sensor is otherwise known as the EVP and it sits right on the top of the EGR...

This information is all in the on-line manual and has explanations of how these things interact...general information...but there are a few videos on YouTube that explain them as well...

Anyway...even with a discount that is still a huge chunk of cash...you could almost buy a new engine for that money...but you will certainly find what you need in a junkyard...my philosophy is to grab two of everything I need because the vehicle may be in the boneyard for the very same issues you are having caused by the same sensors...so chances are you will grab at least one working unit out of the pair...perhaps...maybe get three of each...still won't cost you what you were quoted.

Nothing against dealerships or the mechanics/techs that work them...I just can't afford to pay their prices and buy gas/food/ etc...

Great, thanks a lot. And Its not that I don't agree with your 2 each rule, but I usually get 4, lmfao. I just take them the pita work like rusted exhaust manifolds. So the egr position sensor is just the egr sensor?

haha...well, if you have that many Rangers in the bone yard to grab 4 then have at it! Around my area I'm lucky to find one of what I want...

According to the on-line manual the EGR sensor sits on top of the EGR...you could have a look at it to familiarize yourself with the workings...it's free and usually has something of interest...

Check it out...this link is in the Submit Articles section at the top of the forum and the user name/password are already there so all you have to do is hit enter on the login screen then scroll down to the Repair Manual near the bottom...then select the year/make/model and then the engine selection pops up...the list of articles pops up...and I think this was under Engine and then another list pops up...

Worth a look just to familiarize yourself with it...:icon_thumby:

There wasn't a link, how can i get there i can't find the submit articles.

Thanks. I went to pull a part. I had no idea where the egr position sensor was but I got one new for $25 online so im fine with that. i just wanted to get the icms. I don't have the ranger back yet so i couldn't.reference it and drove my big ass diesel south only to find out I didn't have a socket small enough for it. My vise grips were too big, couldnt fit any adjustable wrench in there or any pliers. Boy was I pissed. I found a standard motor one on amazon for $78 so i picked one of them up too. My dad also managed to get a mass air flow sensor free too, not sure how. i think Ford "donated" it but I have no idea.

Well I replaced every one of the parts Ford told me was throwing a code. And still doing it.. any ideas before I say f it and get a new engine?

Hmmmm...did you disconnect the battery and leave it for an hour or two after you did all that work? It will (should) clear the codes.

A new engine won't necessarily correct it if it involves the computer/sensors...

edit: had to go to original post to refresh what this was about...

So it is still bucking like a Bronco or did it even improve a bit?

Not sure what you mean by bucking. If you mean jerking like crazy, yes but only sometimes. The Cel wasn't on, those were just the codes they told me.
