i have a 93 3.0 v6 manual.its a 1354 automatic t-case. basically i want to know what i need to switch my electric transfer case to a manual one, im tired of it breaking all the time. anyways i was wondering if anyone knew of a good site that takes you step by step. also if i need to get a transfer case out of another truck the exact same ads mine or if there is a span of years that will work with my truck. i dont want to make this a big job so as easy as possible would be nice..........thanks!

You will have to swap out the whole transfer case. You can use anything from a 1990-1997 Ranger, or a 1990-1994 Explorer. You will also need to pull the shifter, linkages, and floor plate out of the junkyard vehicle.

is this fairly easy to do or how long should i devote to this project?

It is not too difficult if you have some experience. You will need to drop both driveshafts and the skid plate. From there, disconnect the electrical connection and unbolt the 5 bolts. Pull the old case off, it weighs about 75#.

Put the new one on in it's place, bolt it in. Attach the shifter to the transmission and adjust the linkage on the t-case. Change out the floor plate to accept the t-case shifter. You don't have to wire up the indicator lights, but if you want to you can.

If you have all the parts you could get it done in an afternoon.

X2. Pretty easy job.

ok cool. thanks for the help. how much do you think i should pay for a manual 1354 at a junkyard?

I am in the middle of doing this swap on my Ranger rite now. I paid $70 for the t-case at a U-Pull-It junkyard and all the other parts cost another 11. I took my t-case to a tranny shop to get it checked out and it needed bearings, seals, and a chain as well.

If you have rust/dirt/crud under your truck, this swap may take a little longer. The top 2 t-case bolts are a little tough to get to. My uncle is a mechanic and he told me to remove the fan shroud and tranny crossmember and I can lower the whole thing down to get the bolts. The engine will pivot on its mounts. I am continuing this tomorrow. Other than the bolts being tight, its not too bad.

I found that the top too bolts can be removed relatively easily with a flexible ratcheting wrench. The driver side is very easy with it. The passenger side is a bit tougher, due to the exhaust position, but is still doable.
