Does anyone know of a source for replacement emission parts like this for 83-85 (carburetor) models? I have an 84 Bronco II running the stock TFI (can't duraspark - IM program) and my vacuum control solenoid for the EGR doesn't cycle. Ford shows them as obsolete and I've tried all the usual outlets . . . if anyone has a pile of leftover emission crap from a duraspark conversion - I'll make you a heck of a deal . . .

Thanks - Kirk

Do you have a part number?

I can go to the junk yard and look for one, but I can't guarantee it will work, or last too long.

Hey I have that pile O crap sensors map solenoids tps feedback solenoid my computer is for a automatic tho make me an offer it needs to go I just didnt want to throw it away. Kim kimcrwbr1@aol.com I can get a box and ship USPS. Do you have paypal you can just credit my account let me know I will make a list of what I have I think I still have a couple of egr solenoids. call after 5pm 206-909-3308

have you checked the egr if you put a vacuum line from the manifold tree at an idle the engine should stall. if not either the egr is bad or the ports are plugged on the manifold and heads and the only way to get it working is to pull the intake manifold and chip it out or pull the heads and open the ports. mine were completely plugged up with carbon/burnt oil what happens is the valveguide seals go bad and the excess oil eventually builds up. you can stick your finger up inside the egr from underneath and see if it is opening when you apply vacuum if it is opening and it dont stall the ports are clogged and need to be cleared. If you have everything all hooked up stick you finger up underneath the diaphram and goose it and the egr should move. I can send you the solenoid/s for shipping cost. Just find out for sure it is the solenoid depending on the miles on your engine valve guide seals clearing the ports will improve the emission readings. If your engine blows smoke after it has been sitting for a bit and you have good compression it is the seals you can replace them without removing the heads and if your careful you can clear the exhaust ports for the egr by pulling the manifold make sure the valves are closed for the two center cylinders and vacuum them out good of jus pull the heads change the valve guide seals nad chip the crap out of the egr ports. Let me know what you find out and if you want those solenoids. I also have some fairly new parts throttle motor, map, feedback solenoid, choke pull off, TPS, cap&rotor good dizzy and code reader.

Thanks for the replies. I've been hitting our local craigslist thinking there should be a ton of old first generation rangers out there rusting away but not having any luck . . .

The EGR is fine - the engine is all new (more or less). The problem I have is that the solenoid is stuck open so that I get vacuum to the EGR all the time . . . can barely get it to idle unless I disconnect the vacuum line to the EGR (then it runs great).

If you're willing to box up whatever you got left over and mail them to me, I would love to have them. The Priority mail flat rate boxes are the best way to ship things up here - drop me an email and I'll get you something to try and make it worth your while (kpb5000@yahoo.com)

Good news is that our local assembly just passed to eliminate the IM program.

Bad news is that it won't go into effect until 2012 . . .

Did you check the vacuum line going to the air horn if it is hooked up wrong it wont vent air to release the egr vacuum. just asking I can send you these parts but it is easy to hook the vent up either to vacuun or just plug it into the wrong place I will send you a pic of where it needs to be hooked up give me a few minutes and you can give me a address to send this stuff to. Kim

The lines look correct according to the diagram and I never messed with anything under the cover until I started troubleshooting - the car sat for many years though so I can't say what all happened before I started working with it.

So did you check the vacuum hose going for the purge solenoid to the top of the carb make sure it is clear just unplug it from the carb and see if the egr closes then unplug the connector from the solenoid closest to the firewall and see if the egr closes the green tube applies vacuum and the yellow is the relief or vent. If you unplug the connector with the green and yellow tubes the egr wont work until you plug the green tube. My vent tube was plugged (yellow one)and I used the pressure from a can of pb-blaster to clear it out.

I'm going to hook everything back up and test the lines like you described (I have the solenoids sitting on my desk at the moment). I havn't checked the vent tube specifically though so thanks for the tip - I'll let you know in a couple of hours (have to run to Lowes and get the wife some garden stuff).

Thanks again,

Kirk

Yea either the vacuum lines are plugged or the solenoid is stuck closed if you can`t blow thru the solenoid for the vent it is stuck closed tap on it and see if it opens otherwise it is a vacuum line. If it opens hook it up and then run some WD-40 or thru it to clean it out there is a little filter that plugs onto the hole inside the air filter housing but I figure the air is already filtered in that area and didn`t spend the money and it worked until I did the duraspark conversion. Let me know if you want those parts I am still trying to get the pics to you did you get my email.

I took one off my cherokee and put it on my ranger and it works good ...

OK - so I hooked everything back up and as I look more closely, it appears that I have the orange hose (vacuum source to solenoid) connected wrong. I had it connected directly to the vacuum tree behind the carb but according to the diagram, it should connect to a tee of some sort off of the carb - but I can't find that tee . . .

Did you get my email it plugs onto the carb on the air horn so it pulls air from the filter area. I allow the egr to vent vacuum to close the egr.

If you just leave it unhooked it will work but it pulls dirty air into the vacuum line
