Did you reattach all the ground wires around the ECU.
ECU controls most things by grounding.

I.E.
Fuel injectors have 12volts when key is on, ECU grounds each to open.
Coils have 12 volts when key is on, ECU/ICM grounds each coil to fire spark plug

Grounds are very important in ECU operation.

RonD i did not dis connect any grounds. just unplugged the big plug, slid out the ecu, put holder on, bolted it in and reconnected the plug

Was battery disconnected?

If not check the fuses in the engine fuse box, all of them

Does the CEL light come on and then go off like normal when key is turned on?

the first thing i did was disconnect the battery, and last thing also. i think it does, but will have to check in the morning.

thanks again

I would disconnect negative battery cable then unplug ECU connector give it a good look, then after 5 minutes hook battery cable back up, this will reset ECU(the no battery for 5 minutes part)

ok update. son went out and looked at it today. found that when he was checking the air cleaner that, he had not knowing pulled the vacuum hose off air intake. now it runs just fine. thanks for all your help. love this site
