so in a few years when you can find wrecked ecoboost cheap is anyone thinking of a swap? think things will bolt up?

From what i hear some people are already doing it, but i think the hot ticket would be the N/A 3.7 with the 6 speed auto. i think that would be a great engine in our trucks.

Hardly. Mechanically, it would be just as much work as a 5.0 swap. You'd need the motor, trans, wiring harness, ECU, exhaust, etc. I'd imagine that the wiring would be more difficult than a 5.0 swap though, and you may or may not need to do more cutting/modifying of the AC box, or wheel wells. It would be cool though!

Yes, but not likely that it'll be into a Ranger. Maybe, depends on your definition of ''bolt-up."

I think it would be an excellent choice for an older ford car in DD service. I'd like something like a Torino Fastback, but want to use it as a DD which kinda kills the common engine choices for those. I think the Ecoboost would offer the performance and everyday drivability I'd be after.

As for "bolt-up" I've heard some presst wild definitions of bolt-up. Will it bolt up to the stock transmission? No. Will it fit in the engine bay in stock form? Not likely.

I'm still planning on it, but other things have come first.

My plan is to use the engine, trans, all assosciated wiring, and part of the exhuast system. I'm figuring on cutting the trans tunnel, and if need be the heater core as well. Also will most likely need a power dome hood, or some type of cowl.

or the eco boost that is in the focus st/ exploder...the little 4 banger one. some one told me that ford was planning on puting that one in the next rust stang. that would be nice....power of a mild built 302 but fuel sipping of a mouse.

Eff that. Have you ever driven anything with a N/A 3.7? They suck. No guts, no power, no get up or go. I drove a 3.7 Mustang with a 6-speed auto the other day. It would barely get out of it's own way, 7,000 miles on the clock. For power it is on par with my sister-in-law's 80,000 mile 2.3L Fusion.

The 3.5L Ecoboost on the other had will hit 60 MPH, turning 5,500 RPM and the power just keeps coming. The 3.5 EB can put out better numbers than the 6.8L V10 and blows the V10 out of the water on the butt dyno.

I don't think you will need a cowl hood. The rest of that will probably be needed.

The 3.5 EB intake is not tall, it is flat and wide. The 6R80 trans is huge though. The bell is huge, and trans is long, the converter is wide. You will probably need a small body lift to make it fit, even with cutting. Stupid thing is nearly the same size as a ZF.

Depends on how much room I have left after moving the front frame up a couple of inches will dictate if I need the cowl.

Yeah, thats part of the reason for wanting to cut the tunnel. I'm wondering if the gas pedal will fit without much offset (trying to keep it comfortable for driving).

Never driven one but I did watch an automatic Mustang with 2.something gears thrash the tar out of two late model GTO's at the local 1/8 mile dragstrip.

I haven't heard anything too disappointing about the 3.7 in anything until now.

From what I have heard Ford would have set the world on fire if they had trashed the 4.0 and put the 3.7 in its place.

Never driven one but I did watch a brand new automatic Mustang with 2.something gears thrash the tar out of two late model GTO's at the local 1/8 mile dragstrip. The GTO's seemed to be fairly well driven and should have had a major upper hand IMO.

I drove a 3.7 Stanford with 20 miles on it and that thing hauled ass! You must have had the car in Eco mode. They don't like to shift in Economy mode

I have driven a 4.0 Mustang, a 3.7 Mustang, a 5.0 Mustang, a 5.0 F-150, and a 3.5 EB F-150.

The 3.7 Mustang is by far the worst of the lot.

The 5.0 with 6-speed stick was fun though. You could still feel the nose drop when you put the clutch in to shift into 4th gear.

Friend of mine is putting a new ecoboost in a early bronco.

One of my buddies said (key word: said, i can't back up this claim) that a while back one of his friends in utah bought a new eb f150 and that winter his wife wrapped it around a pole so he stuck the engine in an 01+ std cab ranger. Idk if he was telling the truth though haha
