ecoboost?

Somebody had to figure out how to put a V8 in a Ranger, or hang a turbo on a regular 2.3... the noteworthy thing is most of that was figured out before the internet.

The kicker is the Ecoboost F-150 gets similar milage as a turbo or a nicely set up V8 Ranger, mid 20's. In a Ranger that is an instant 1k+ lighter (I have yet to see an 2WD EB) and punching a smaller hole in the atmosphere it should get better.

The problem IMO with Windsor and Lima swaps is their escalating age. The newest OHV 5.0 and 2.5 is 11 years and and they are not getting any younger... we are going to need a viable modern day alternative for future swappers. I know some guys have switched to late model GM LS engines for the lack of competition from the Ford camp.

Ford might step up the game and make a standalone setup like they did for the OHC 5.0 if there is enough interest too. :D

I've already stated that I think the Ecoboost would be a really cool swap, but the OP asked if "things will bolt up?" Everything at this point about fitment, fuel economy in a ranger, how much cutting, wiring, or fabbing is required to fit in a ranger is all speculation. The cost of the drivetrain that you find at some point in the future is speculation as well. The fact is, we don't know.

What we do know, is a 5.0 swap, or 2.3T swap is about as close to bolt in as engine swaps get in a Ranger. There is plenty of info about each swap on this forum and many others. Each swap is capable of generating numbers similar to, or in some cases better than the ecoboost. And when the OP encounters a problem with his swap, he will actually have places like TRS where he can come for help, instead of people just guessing.

Again, I'd like to see the EB swap attempted, but I think we can all agree that being the guinea pig for a completely unproven swap would require skills, knowledge, and preferably experience. When the OP asks if "things will bolt up", it makes me think that throwing them into something as complex as an Ecoboost swap on their own is probably not wise. You have to crawl before you can walk.

Just for my own curiosity, anybody know how much an Ecoboost v6 weighs? What about that giant RWD trans?

this engine was hotrod packaged before it went into production. actually packaged into a literal hotrod.

i have seen numerous turbo and non turbo powertrains...looked at a non turbo just a few hours ago. complete...40 k miles 1800 bux. very tempting for the bronco2.

turbo packages over 50k miles are 3500 ish. thats pretty cheap.

swapping it would be pretty simple if its pulled as a repower complete. 30-60 hrs to fit it. under a 100 to have it ripping rubber off the wheels reliably coast to coast.

i cant build a 300 hp 4 cyl or 4.0 v6 that would equal the non turbo v6 for 1800 bux.:dunno:
i cant build a sbf to match the turbo for 3500 bux either.:icon_confused:

objectively speaking anyway....

but....i ran into that shit looking at jdm diesel powertrains though...:thefinger: you can have your 300 horsepowers...i want atf burning 35 mpg clatter.
