I have a question. Ebay etiquette is important to me, so please tell me your opinion.

I just sold a carburetor on Ebay auction style. The auction ended on the 26th, and it was the type of auction where it received numerous bids right before it ended. So the winner was obviously right at the computer bidding when he won the auction. Well here we are approaching 72 hours later, and he still has not paid or given any indication as to an intent to pay or any other correspondence. At what point should I resolve to the "second chance offer" and offer it to the next guy down? Am I being ultra sensitive to this?

Thanks as always. :icon_hornsup:

what are eBay's rules to this?

I'd try contacting the potential buyer. If he doesn't respond after a fair amount of time..F*** him! Oh, and make sure you check the reg's on this with an admin from ebay. Just to be sure.

72 hours seems like a pretty long time to me. I've made contact with the buyer within the next day usually. Well - except for one punk-ass kid who was using his father's account to buy a car from me.

I sent one right away along with an invoice. I've never had a buyer not respond within 24 hours, and I've sold somewhere around 100 items on Ebay. I've waited on people to pay, but they told me what was going on through the process; you know the "I don't get paid until ______" deal. I'm absolutely cool with this, I just would like to know.....I guess I'll give the guy a nudge again.

yeah... i know that amazon had rules on how long you have to pay..

and you should be able to set up your actions with "this seller requires immediate payment or down payment, unless otherwise noted" or something like that on all of your for sale items. that way you are covered, and if they need to wait to payday all they have to do is message you and tell you that.

"this seller requires immediate payment or down payment, unless otherwise noted"

OK, I thought this option was only available on buy it now. I'll look into that. It has been a while since I last sold something so maybe I've bumped my head.

EDIT: This is the only check box I see: "Require immediate payment when buyer uses Buy It Now"

Oh well.. Maybe that is buy it now.. Idk... Hmmm lol

If you put the rules in your auction then the buyer has to follow your rules. Was payment due immediately after the auction, or was [payment due by three days after the auction? You see, you have to set the rules for your auction. You need to read Ebay buyer and seller rules. Check out the guys feedback and see if he has negative or good feedback. If he is new he might have just signed up to scam people. You can email the Ebay website service for help on the matter. All they will do is ban the guy...unless he makes up and other fake email address to Ebay and another User ID.

Like I said...YOU are the one who makes up the rules in your auction as to when payment is due...either with Paypal or Money Order (Postal or Wester Union etc.).

x2

Never list anything without saying when payment is due, then there is no guesswork

i would've contacted him directly after and asked for the money, told him he had 24 hours to pay or it goes to the next guy.

we're americans, we're fat and extremely lazy, we have to be given deadlines to accomplish things

I usually pay for everything i buy off of ebay within 10 minutes after i buy it..
