Eaton M90 SC

intercooler has nothing to do with your radiator. you need to do alot more research. have you done any?

Stick is definitely better for, well, anything! So you do not need a tranny cooler. Why would you need an intercooler, though. Just install a nice, thick aluminum radiator to keep your engine nice and cool.Summit racing has some great products along these lines. Maybe do an exhaust gas temp. gauge too, If you do hard-core driving, it's almost a must-have. But an intercooler, no. Oh, you may need some longer vacuum lines. I have to say, though, if you feel like you don't know what you're doing, take it to someone who does. Because once you get into installing a supercharger, you better know how to install it right, or you may end up bumming rides to work for 2 weeks while you wait for TRS members to walk you through the process.

That is why I am asking here and on the explorer forums, which I've not had much luck with. I do not know where to look, which is why I'm here. I'm new to the need for speed mode, I've had some experience working on cars, but need a list of stuff I need to do the SC install. I figured people on these kinds of sites would know and give suggestions....

I have a 2003 Mach 1 Mustang as my garage queen. So, I wouldn't need to bum a ride lol. The engine has 200K miles, I am going to do a rebuild unless I can find a SOHC for cheap. What years SOHC will fit my '91 X?

There are some threads on superchargers on here. GO to the 4.0 forums, and wayyyyy back on the 1st. page I think theres one about a swap into an early OHV 4.0.

Thanks, but I couldn't really find what I was looking for.

I think I'm just gonna go for bolt-on mods and build a bit of power that way. Any good sites that are great for 4.0 bolt-on mods? And also, exhaust mods?

It's painfully obvious you have no idea what an intercooler does, and that is basic information you need to have before you make any further statements..

An "Intercooler" more properly a "Charge air cooler" is to cool the intake air that is HEATED by the supercharger in the normal course of compressing the air.

Compressing any gas makes it hotter.

that heat reduces the total ammount of oxygen getting into the engine
and getting that extra air/oxygen into the engine is the entre point.

Cooling it down after compressing the air allows you to get more IN.

Back to my question, is there any good bolt-ons for the 4.0 OHV? I know that trucks have a different aftermarket market (LOL) than do sports cars, but there's gotta be SOMETHING.

dude im not trying to sound like an asshole but use the damn SEARCH button i have a big long thread about this. is you want real power loss the 4.0 get a v8. you will drop a ton of money into the 4.0 and get very little gain or you could get a 5.0 and swap it in and do a mild build and have around 400 hp

First of all, if you would have looked at my name, you would have found out that I'm not a dude. Second of all, not everything that one is looking for is in ur SEARCH feature. I come on to these forums to get information because I hope that others have the same problems/concerns/what-have-you. You don't need to be rude about it.

If you have a thread about this, then why the hell didn't you post the thread link instead of bitching at me about finding links. Woulda been a heck of a lot easier for you to do that then to just rip on me.

Looks like you have an OHV 4.0, so this link wont help you much...

As for bolt on power for a 4.0, there isn't much out there. Aside from forced induction, there isnt much you can do to increase power without internal engine mods. Things like 'cold air intakes' and such wont help at all. You could go for some headers, and open the exhaust, and that will give you some in the upper RPM's.

Here are some custom built Turbo 4.0's..but anything like this and it has to be all custom

There just arent too many bolt on power adders for the 4.0. You have to go with force induction, which is going to require a lot of custom work, or internal engine mods.

Ok, thanks for that explanation, that's what I was figuring out that there really isn't much for those 4.0's. That's ok. I will prolly go forced induction sometime.

Hello. I do know what the basic job of an intercooler is. However I am no expert on the subject, I can assure you. But my friend works on turbocharged engines which are intercooled as well as some intercooled supercharged vehicles. And this is where I learned the very, very basics of what an intercooler does. And 6psi boost doesnt seem like nearly enough to require an intercooler. However, as someone who has dealt with cracked heads due to overheating, I did stress the need for a larger radiator, because, in very basic terms, more compression equals a larger, more forceful combustion. A larger, more powerful explosion will create more heat. And more heat is bad for heads.

Do you have bigger tires on your truck?

One thing you could do get some more power would be to gear the axles lower, but that'll depend on the size of the tires you're running...

My tires are stock size.
