Are junkyards dying out?

Looks like this for me on Edge or Chrome on PC and Chrome on android. only signed in on Chrome for PC.

I can't click that, but I can right click it on pc. I have an option to load image which does nothing. I also have an option to "Open Image in New Tab". Which results in an error page that says:

You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action.


Kinda looks like it's stored somewhere on the server that only moderators can access.

Former president Obama's Cash for Clunkers sank more than 50% of the yards that were here...seemed like a move to make gas powered automobiles disposable, subsequently obsolete, according to plan.

Prior to that evil program I had my pick from 7 very large yards, each with 7-10 of each of my vehicles. Had things been a little dry, which never happened, there were too many yards Mount Vernon to Roy to keep track of!!

Funny, when C4C was a thing the yards by me were stacked with C4C vehicles.

They all had that spray painted on the underside of the hood bc of the mandate to make the engine inoperable

Cash for Clunkers was awesome for me, I basically volunteered at a yard for a week and helped them disassemble stuff in exchange for whatever I wanted off any of them.

There was only two vehicles I saw roll through that I was sad about - a really nice 1st gen Bronco II and an '84 F150 that was also really nice and had virtually every option you could get. Everything else was crap. Rusted out cargo vans and GM pickups mainly.

I just noticed this thread, I’m a latecomer.

Oh wait, are you talking about the commercial junkyards that sell parts?

Spent half the day in the junkyard (two actually) today.
More than a few Rangers, Exploders, etc.
Mostly 3rd Gen Exploders, 2nd Gens were much fewer.
A pile of Expeditions, Escapes, Edges...
(I was on the hunt for a center console.)
I ended up pulling pieces from two and from a 97 Mountaineer.
(Don't forget about them as donors!)
Lots of Focusses? Focii?
(My buddy who was with me runs an 01 as a Daily Driver... I'm a VW guy. )
With my "First Responder" discount I'm out a whopping $34 for a complete console with an un-fuxored armrest!

Kinda. It's mostly tan. With a grey armrest.

By the end of the day today it's going to be Matte or Satin black (Krylon Plastic Paint) with a grey armrest.

Mebbe I'll start a thread on it?

I shoulda grabbed some pics of what it took to get the main console out of the 97 Explorer and how absolutely NASTY the Mountaineer was.

Speaking of center consoles… I may end up having to build a new center console for my green Ranger. I’m finding that not everything is going to fit. I’m not sure I want to cut this one apart to modify it when I was the one to build it and it’s simple enough to build another with modifications built in. I don’t have the time to build another just yet though so it’s gonna be awhile.

@cmcolfax , people are fricking disgusting. I worked at an auto auction and had to tag more than one vehicle as a biohazard.
