E85 Problem

This might sound a bit stupid but I workded at a used car lot as a mechanic for a couple years and I used an obd II scanner daily not the cheap autozone ones but a really nice one with diferrent cards for years and models and some of the vehicals that were flex fuel acutally had an option in the computer to turn the flex fuel on or off from the scan tool. maybe a dealer can hook it up and see whats going on

I am going to clean the MAF sensor tonight to see if that makes any difference, although I doubt it. My thinking is if the FFS wasn't working, my truck wouldn't run or would run and then stall or quit. Also, from information obtained, if the FFS was bad, it should be throwing code PO176, which I am not getting.

I'd guess that putting that much e85 in your truck out of nowhere just threw the ecu for a loop. As mentioned, I'd gradually work my way up to a full tank, and then run a few tanks through the truck. The system will realize whats happening eventually.

Update:

Well, I stopped and bought a can of MAF sensor cleaner at Advance Auto tonight on my way home from work.

I actually removed the MAF sensor from the MAF sensor housing and sprayed the sensor down really good. Also cleaned the inside of the housing with the spray and let the unit dry out. Put it back together and checked MAF connector, looked clean and ok.

I disconnected the neg. battery terminal before I unhooked the MAF sensor. Re-connected the neg. battery cable and started my truck. It had a real rough idle at first, I am assuming that the ECU was relearning? Anyway, after about a minute, started to smooth out and idle correctly.

Went for a test drive, no CEL. Waited about two hours, went out again for a test drive all around town and on highway. No CEL as of yet. I am not 100% that it was the MAF as the CEL didn't come back on last time until I got to work. I should know tomorrow as to whether cleaning the MAF sensor corrected the issue.

We shall see......

No go.... CEL came on this morning on my way to work. I can't understand why I drove around a for over ten miles last night and no CEL. I come out this morning, it is cold, truck starts, stalls, rough. Try it again, starts right up as normal, drive 5 miles and the CEL comes on.
